Welsh Producers Aim To Make A Meal Out Of Lunch

Welsh food and drink producers looking to take a bite out of the food-to-go market will be making their debut this week at Lunch 2009 (October 1 -2).

It will be the first time the �Wales the True Taste� stand has appeared at the event, which will be held at Old Billingsgate on the banks of the River Thames in London. The Uk�s only trade show for the food-to-go sector, Lunch s a must attend event for buyers from major supermarkets, high street chains and contract caterers as well as independent sandwich bars, caf�s, juice bars and coffee houses.

The �True Taste� exhibitions and events programme is managed by the Welsh Assembly Government and forms part of the commitment to promote award winning Welsh food and drink.

A number of Welsh food and drink companies will be attending the event under the True Taste banner at the historic former home of the world famous Billingsgate Fish Market, which is now an exhibition and conference centre.

Plas Farm Ltd

Angelsey based dairy company; Plas Farm Ltd will be showing its range of low-fat frozen yogurt.

Made from fresh locally produced milk, the company�s frozen yogurts are produced for the trade and consumer markets.

Plas Farm frozen yogurt is available in a variety of options: 4litre natural or flavoured for juice and smoothie bars, as a soft mix for use in �soft-serve� machines, as yogurt portions which when blended with frozen fruit make a delicious dessert, and the company�s Napoli/Scooping yogurt � a low fat alternative to ice cream in a multitude of flavours.

Details will also be available of Plas Farm�s latest product � 500ml frozen yogurt for making the perfect smoothie at home.

Rhug Organic Farm

North-Wales based Rhug Organic Farm will be promoting its new range of pies that have won Great Taste Gold awards this year. Prime, slow-cooked, tender cuts of meat are encased in short crust, all butter pastry in four mouth-watering flavours: Steak, Mushroom and Red Wine; Steak and Ale; Roasted Vegetable and Goats� Cheese; and Chicken and Mushroom.

Its Pork and Black Pudding Sausages also won a Great Taste Gold award and will be on display along with a small range of pre-packed organic meat.

Rhug sells organic home-reared beef, pork and lamb, along with organic poultry and game on its estate in Corwen, North Wales, nationwide to farm shops, delis and restaurants.

Clam�s Handmade Cakes

Clam�s Handmade Cakes of Crickhowell will be taking their new big vanilla cup cakes. Made from vanilla sponge they are topped with either lilac pink or lemon butter icing decorated with sparkle and flowers. A chocolate cup cake will be available for Christmas.

Also on show will be a Christmas cake, made from a family recipe. The bar style cake is marzipaned with fondant icing on top, and is ideal for the food service sector.

Clam�s have won a host of awards for their cakes, including Great Taste Awards for the last 10 years and a True Taste award for their Whisky Fruit Cake. They also make shortbread, flapjacks and brownies.

PV France Authentic French bakery, PV France, produces a quality range of fresh or frozen par-baked and fully baked products from its brand new factory base on Angelsey. At Lunch the company will be showing and offering tastings of its products, including a large range of bread will be on display: Baguette, Parisien, 1/2 Baguette (white, brown, multicereals, Viennoise), Petit Pain Sandwich (white, brown), Petit Pain(white, brown), Panini, Ciabatta, and Ciapini Brioche. While on a viennoiserie side, the company will have croissants, pain au chocolat, pain aux raisins, vanilla custard danish, apple danish, raspberry danish, cinnamon whirl and mini croissant. Fruitapeel Fresh and pasteurised fruit juice and smoothie producer, Fruitapeel, will be offering tastings and information about its range of products from its new premises in South Wales. Fruitapeel, the second largest manufacturer of fruit and confectionary based sauces in the UK, with excellent support from the Welsh Assembly, has recently acquired the former Sunjuice Ltd bottling plant in Llantrisant. They are targeting the retail and food service market with own label and branded fresh and pastuerised juices and smoothies in a range of bottle and tetra pack sizes and formats.

Ogmore Vale Foods Ltd

Bridgend based Ogmore Vale Foods the manufacturing subsidiary of the long established family bakery business Ogmore Vale Bakery and will be presenting its full range of flour confectionery designed specifically for the grab and go market.

This range includes individually wrapped Bar Cakes, Sliced Cake, Round Cake Wedges both in ambient and frozen (thaw & serve) formats. It will also be presenting its range of Novelty Shortbread biscuits targeting the seasonal markets of Halloween, Christmas, Valentines, Easter and Summer.

Ogmore Vale will be taking the opportunity to launch its Mini Welsh Fayre range consisting of Bara Brith and Teisen Lap which are designed to sit in both the food to go and retail sectors.
