The Welsh Food Festival SAT 1ST AND SUN 2ND SEPTEMBER 2007
After a highly successful 1st year the Welsh Food Festivals confirmed activities for 2007 are set to offer visitors a real taste sensation. Held at the stunning private Glansevern Hall Gardens midway between Welshpool and Newtown, the festival not only offers 20 acres of sumptuous gardens to enjoy but an amazing array of food - related activities.
Local Food Heroes headlining at the festival include The Mother of Welsh Cooking Lavinia Vaughan, Award Winning Gareth Johns from the Wynnstay Hotel in Machynlleth, Family Food Guru Louise Powell, Geoffrey Greenhough from Pimento Restaurant in Newtown and Mary Ann Gilchrist from Carlton Riverside Restaurant voted the Best Restaurant in Mid Wales in this years True Taste Awards. The Daily Telegraphs Daniel Butler will be heading into the Glansevern woods on a Mushroom Foray if conditions are suitable and
AGA will be there to demonstrate how to whip up some delicious dishes with their oven.
All these chefs will be demonstrating with produce from the 50 + fantastic artisan food and drink producers who are exhibiting. Produce available will include organic vegetables, smoked meats and garlic, lamb, beef, pork, game, cheeses, preserves, pastries and cakes, beers, ciders and liqueurs all produced in the vicinity of the festival or elsewhere in Wales and its borders.
Live entertainment including a jazz band, harpist, Welsh dancing and Marching Minstrels will be present to serenade visitors through this foodie heaven and, if that was not enough, there are some fantastic hands on activities to enjoy including pasta, pizza, bread and smoothie making while children will be able to plant seeds to take home, build a wattle and daub house and milk a cow.
Meriel Thomas, Festival Director said The festival aims to show visitors all that Mid Wales has to offer and introduce them to fantastic food. I hope people of all ages will feel inspired by the demonstrations and other activities in this beautiful setting and will continue to support their local producers.
