When you eat; they eat For something to work really well it has to be simple: simple to use; simple to understand and simple to spread the word. Extraordinary Ones is simple and effective. Already established in Holland by restaurateur and founder, Leon Aarts, Extraordinary Ones is now launching in the UK.

How does it work? Let�s ask a question. You and your family are going out to dinner at the weekend. You�ve decided on pizza. You have two options. 1. Do you go to your usual restaurant, choose your usual options, pay your usual bill and not think any more of it. Or, 2. Do you find your local pizza joint that is a member of the Extraordinary Ones scheme; choose your usual toppings and pay 20p more to have a meal that will help others to eat as you eat?

For 20 pence, it�s no-brainer. Perhaps this logo should be called the Tree of Life, as that is what you will be doing each time you eat at a restaurant displaying this symbol. You will be giving someone else in the world a chance of life.

Small change � big difference It costs just 20 pence to feed a child in a developing country. 20 pence is small change here. If the price of your favourite meal went up by 20p you probably wouldn�t even notice. However, it can make a real difference in the developing world. The reason this model has worked so well in Holland and will make a real difference herein the UK is because of the number of 20 pences that can be collected each day and put to good use.

�In the summer of 2009 I saw a video clip saying that in London alone, more than 1 billion meals are served in restaurants each year. I was already looking for an innovative concept that could collect money simply for charity and specifically for hunger related organisations. Every night millions of children around the world go to bed hungry. Every day, 16,000 children die from malnourishment or from diseases related to persistent, chronic hunger. Yet every day, in London alone, around three million meals are served in restaurants, cafes and hotels. If 20 pence was added to the cost of each of those meals, Londoners would collect �600,000 every day.

Where does the money go? Extraordinary Ones is teaming up with charities that work specifically on finding ways to solve world hunger. In the UK, for the first year, this is the Hunger Project. In Africa, Asia and Latin America, the Hunger Project seeks to end world hunger and poverty for good by empowering people to lead lives of self-reliance, meet their own basic needs and build better futures for their children.

The Hunger Project is a UN accredited charity that uses sustainable ways to improve lives and eradicate hunger such as education, micro-loans and giving people the resources to help themselves. It helps whole communities to become sustainable and ensures that each community it helps is self-reliant, rather than reliant on aid.
