Adding a touch of the wild frontier, Time Out nominated The Diner with its authentic American rocknroll charm, heaven scent waffles, best in town burgers and home-fries opens its third bar and restaurant with an American Lodge inspired roof-top terrace near Camdens famous stables market on Jamestown Road, London, N1.
More American country lodge than New York diner, this summer every All Star, skinny-jean, plaid-shirt wearing urbanite will be swaying to the beat of American country and blue grass. With its stone clad walls and wood decking, diners will enjoy good value food (burgers, hotdogs and fries), exclusive American beer imports (Lone Star and Dixie) and great tasting cocktails (named after great 50s crooners) from the privilege and position of the capitals newest (and only) mountain-lodge roof terrace.
Accommodating upwards of 60 people, the roof top restaurant and bar area is furnished with bench style seating and has the benefit of a large sweeping canopy as well as outdoor oil-burning heaters enabling the restaurant to serve alfresco 365 days of the year.
The interior pays homage to 50s Americana and is similar to its sister bar and restaurants in Soho and Shoreditch. Booth-style dining and red-leather banquette seating, retro lights, assorted melamine furniture and US memorabilia transcend this restaurant into an authentic diner experience. Downstairs there is seating for 80 in the restaurant with a small dispense bar and above it hangs a retro movie screen hoarding displaying specials of the day, and is a nod to the great and iconic films of the decade: A Streetcar named Desire and Some Like it Hot.
Food is available throughout the day and starts with an impressive breakfast menu with over 20 different options: Eggs Benedict, Eggs Florentine, Eggs Royale, a Stack of 3 Pancakes with Maple Syrup, Blueberries or Banana, Breakfast Waffles with Bacon and Swiss Cheese, and The Hungry Man Breakfast eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, home fries and a muffin or toast! For mains, expect the finest choice of Hamburgers made to The Diners own recipe using 100% Scotch Beef and more than 5 different types of fries; Home Fries (hand-cut), Diner Fries (Cajun Spiced), Wet Fries (with gravy), Cheese Fries (with melted cheese) and Chilli Fries (with cheese and chilli) as well as a good selection of Hot Dogs, Salads, Mexican Burritos, Tacos and classic American Blue Plates a house special and exclusive to The Diner.
Usually referring to cheaper dishes and dating back to the 20s and 30s, blue plate dishes served at The Diner typically mean quality American Classics such as Meatloaf with Mash, Green Beans and Gravy, Chilli Con Carni and Corn Beef Hash with Eggs.
For dessert home baked Apple Pie and Pecan Pie are a must, as is the New York Cheesecake and Chocolate Fudgecake.
The bar is well stocked just like youll find in the states and offers a choice of 15 different 50s inspired crooning cocktails including the June Carter and Dolly Partons Jolene. The House Shakes are made using real Chocolate, Strawberry, Vanilla, Hazelnut and Pistachio or Peanut Butter, should you wish - and the Hard Shakes made with Jack Daniels Tennesse e Whiskey and Sailor Jerry Rum are a house special and utterly delicious. A good choice of American style beers such as Lone Star, Dixie Lager, Red Stripe, Brooklyn, Modelo Especial, Negra Modelo, Pacifico Clara and Banana Bread Beer are also highly recommended.
This is the third The Diner bar and restaurant concept from Goodlife who are originators of some of our most enduring and best loved London venues including Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen, Two Floors, The Electricity Showrooms, The Slaughtered Lamb and Under the Westway.
