Tapas A'peel Brings Sharing To A Whole New Level And A Fresh New Perspective To Mediterranean Cuisine

Hong Kong- Tapas a'Peel, which has opened its doors in a quiet corner of Peel Street overlooking Pak Sze Lane Park, serves freshly prepared home style  dishes from countries that border both the northern and southern shores of the colourful Mediterranean region.


The dishes, which have been created for "grazing", or sharing, are created from simple but tasty recipes whose origins lie in Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey and Morocco. The use of only the freshest produce allows the food to "speak for itself" by staying true to the original provenance of the ingredients.

 

Starters include Bruschetta Duo of Olive Tapenada & Tomato; Moroccan Salad with Eggplant, Vine tomatoes, Red Onions & Tahini Yoghurt Dressing; Small Green Peppers Stuffed with Feta Cheese; and Sliced Serrano Ham.

 

Mains feature Grilled Lamb Shoulder Chops in Moroccan Marinade; Piri Piri Chicken; Souvlaki with Ttzatziki; Sautéed Chorizo & Olives in Olive Oil, Chili & Garlic; Lamb Tagine; Vegetable Moussaka; "Osso Buco"; and Black Ink Pasta with Prawns in Dill Cream. For the more traditional, there are wood fired pizzas - Smoked Anchovy and Margarita.

 

Customers can select their  own "loaf"  - Sun dried Tomato & Olive;  Garlic Loaf with Rosemary & Sea Salt and Italian Herb Panini - each of which comes fresh and piping hot from the oven, accompanied by top quality Virgin Olive Oil, Aged Balsamico and a personal garlic grater.

 

Sweets are kept simple: Home Made Lemon Tart & Wild Berry Coulis; Vanilla Pod Ice Cream with Fresh Raspberries; and Chilled Walnut Cream with Caramelized Walnuts and Frangelico Liqueur.

            

A reasonably priced, but carefully selected, wine list offers excellent and affordable house wines, including Sacha Lichine, Sauvignon Blanc, 2010, France and Montepulciano d'Abruzzo "Riparosso", 2010, Italy. RP89, by the glass or bottle, as well as a range from Italy, France, Spain and Lebanon.


A set lunch offers Mediterranean Appetizer Platter or Mixed Salad, followed by a Daily Pasta, coffee or tea ($88). Customers can choose Wood-fired Pizza Margarita for an additional $40 to replace the pasta.

 

Tapas a'Peel also serves a selection of designer gourmet teas from DILMAH T - renowned as being among the finest teas the world has to offer.

 

Manager Heinz Egli says the emphasis of the restaurant is on fresh, tasty food served in a cosy atmosphere. "Tapas a'Peel has been designed like a neighbourhood restaurant with warm, rustic interiors and authentic, wholesome food to complete the experience."

 

Tapas a'Peel is open for lunch and dinner, from Monday to Saturday. It is also available for private functions such as cocktail parties for up to 50 people or private dinners (up to 20).
