With its prime location and stylish setting within the Pan Pacific Serviced Suites, Oriole Café & Bar makes a great destination for all-day casual dining and drinks. Here, diners can indulge in a wide variety of affordable comforting global fare, matched by an extensive bar menu of gourmet coffee, beers, wines and cocktails. Diners can lounge within the café or relax at the al fresco area on Discovery Walk amidst the bustle of Orchard Road.

 

Owner Keith Loh, who runs Bedrock Bar & Grill next door - is an avid coffee lover, and incidentally an accomplished barista and winner of the Singapore National Barista Championship 2010. Since it opened, Oriole has built a loyal following for its gourmet coffee offerings and chic café experience. There are now three Oriole outlets in Singapore (the other two are at Republic Plaza and Jiak Chuan Road in Chinatown).

 

Menu Highlights

Cosy up in one of the leather-upholstered booths and whet your appetite with the peppercorn-crusted Hot smoked salmon ($15), served with potato, fine beans and egg in a dill mustard dressing, and Spanish tuna salad ($14) with grilled palm hearts, cherry tomato, chickpeas and mint dressing.

 

Diners can also relish the recommended Jamaican jerk chicken ($19) where grilled jerk-rub baby chicken is matched with corn salsa and crispy onion rings, as well as the exotic Moroccan fish tagine ($27) - comprising John Dory fish cooked with chickpeas, spinach, tomato in a piquant harissa-saffron sauce, with baguette on the side.

 

The desserts section also lists new additions such as the Oriole knickerbocker glory ($12.50) - a tall sundae of triple chocolate and vanilla ice cream, brandied cherries, almond cat's tongue and double chocolate cookies, and a traditional Apple strudel ($13) served with a warm vanilla sauce. Oriole's sweet bestsellers are the Chocolate fudge cake ($6.50) and Sticky pudding ($9) with rum, raisins, treacle pudding and vanilla ice cream. If you like coffee in your dessert, try the Honey crumble affogato ($7.50), where rich vanilla ice-cream is served with aromatic espresso and bits of delicious honeycomb crunch.

Don't miss the Sunday brunch for the whole family as well as a two-course weekday set lunch (Mon to Fri) from $15++ to $18++ where guests can choose from a soup or salad for starter, followed by a main course of pasta or meat dishes. There are also weekly blackboard specials featuring seasonal produce.

 

Drink & Donate!

From 1 June to 31 December 2012, Oriole Café & Bar is donating 10% of their coffee beverage proceeds to the M.I.L.K (Mainly I Love Kids) fund for disadvantaged children and youth in Singapore www.milk.org.sg. Diners can do their part for charity as well as enjoy Oriole's gourmet coffee offerings such as its signature Piccolo latte ($5.80), Chilli chocolate mocha ($6), and Single-cup filter coffee (from $6.50). Oriole's artisan coffee beans are sourced from all over the world and roasted by the team of baristas to present a perfect cuppa.

 

They roast bespoke blends of artisan coffee beans for corporate clients and other hospitality businesses and also opened a training lab for aspiring baristas. At the retail counter, customers can buy Oriole's freshly roasted coffee beans, books, gift hampers featuring specialty coffee brewing ware like a French Press and Oriole's merchandise.

 

Cocktails, Bar Food & Live Music

The spacious and warm interiors of Oriole in the day morphs into a chic and bustling watering hole where one can enjoy specialty cocktails in the heart of Orchard Road till late. Savour unique drinks like Ori-ole ($15) - a concoction of Gordon's gin, fresh mint, sugar and ginger beer. Enjoy the promotions on Friday and Saturday from 5pm to 11pm where house spirits/pours are at $7 and beers and house wines are $9. Oriole also serves late bar food on Friday and Saturday such as Prawn poppers dusted with Cajun spices ($9.50) and Italian pork sausages with caramelized onions ($11). Music lovers will enjoy live music performed by a band from 8pm to 11pm on Friday and Saturday.

 

Backgrounder

Oriole Café & Bar first opened on 15 December 2008 at Pan Pacific Serviced Suites at Somerset Road and has since built a huge following with its gourmet coffee and café offerings. In November 2010, a second outlet - Oriole Espresso & Brew Bar - opened at Republic Plaza to cater to the busy professional crowd in the Central Business District. Here, you can also find Singapore's first brew bar dedicated to traditional brewed coffee and Singapore's first La Marzocco Strada. In November 2011, Oriole opened its third outpost - Oriole Coffee Roasters at 10 Jiak Chuan Road in the quaint Chinatown area. Located in a three-storey heritage shophouse, Oriole Coffee Roasters combines a roasting facility, training and coffee lab as well as boutique café in a charming setting.
