The PuLi Hotel and Spa (The PuLi) has recently appointed Christopher Young as the Director of Food and Beverage at Shanghai�s first luxury urban resort. With two decades of hospitality industry experience, Chris arrives at The PuLi from his most recent position as Restaurant Manager at Jacques Reymond in Melbourne, Australia. In his new role, Chris will oversee the food and beverage operations at The PuLi, including Jing�An Restaurant and Long Bar.
Moving directly into restaurant management after graduating from university in 1991, Chris started his career as Restaurant Manager at Timmy�s Restaurant and Rivers Caf� Bar in Queensland, Australia. Three years later, he joined Adelphi Hotel, a boutique hotel in Melbourne as Assistant F&B Manager. In 1997, Chris opened his own restaurant, Pomme, which was voted as one of Melbourne�s top ten restaurants and awarded the highest �Three Hat� rating by The Age Good Food Guide in both 1998 and 1999.
During the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, Chris assumed the role of Restaurant Manager for the Nautilus Group, which owned three prestigious fine-dining outlets in Sydney. During his two-year tenure, he successfully opened a fourth restaurant in Melbourne for the group, bolstering their portfolio and paving the way for Nautilus to be purchased by an overseas investment group.
From 2002, Chris managed Melbourne�s most historic fine-dining restaurant, Jacques Reymond. During his eight years as Restaurant Manager/Maitre�d, the restaurant won many national and local awards, including the most prestigious �Restaurant of the Year� and �Service Excellence Award� by The Age Good Food Guide in 2009, and �Australian R&C Restaurant of the Year 2006�. Jacques Reymond also became a Relais & Chateaux member under Chris� leadership, joining a collection of the world�s most exquisite restaurants and hotels. Chris was also instrumental in opening another restaurant and launching an exclusive high-end catering division under the Jacques Reymond group.
Born and raised in Queensland, Australia, Chris received his Bachelor degree in Built Environment from the Queensland Institute of Technology. In his spare time, he loves to travel with his wife and two-year-old son, and discover new cuisines and cultures along the way.
