On Saturday, October 28, 2006, the Jack Daniels Distillery and the people of Lynchburg, Tennessee, will host more than 60 award-winning barbecue teams at the 18th Annual Jack Daniels World Championship Invitational Barbecue. An opportunity exists for a UK journalist or film crew to accompany the former world champions from the UK and possibly even compete as a member of the team.
Jackie and Rick Weight of the American BBQ Co have been invited to return to compete for the title which they have already won once before, in 2004.
They are the only non American team ever to win the competition.
The Jack Daniels Invitational is the most prestigious barbecue competition in the world.
BBQ Champions from across the United States and around the world compete in the categories of Pork Ribs, Pork Shoulder, ,Beef Brisket and Chicken. International teams enjoy being especially creative by entering their Home Cookin from the Homeland, while the U.S. championship teams do the same with their Cooks Choice.
Now, having won the title once already and become total converts to the American smoker method of barbequing, Rick and Jackie are the sole distributors for two leading American brands of barbeque: Cookshack (Europe) and Traeger (UK & Ireland).
They distribute and sell the barbeque machines, accessories and also the wood pellets which are used to give the unique smoke flavour a flavour which is well known to our American cousins, but relatively untried here in the UK.
For the Jack Daniels Invitational they will be competing on a Cookshack Fast Eddy Smoker BBQ.
