With summer just around the corner what better opportunity to cultivate your kids creativity than in the kitchen? Top chef, Phil Vickery, has created a selection of delicious Bramley apple recipes especially for small children to cook at home with their parents or guardians, and for older kids to try on their own.
Whether youre happy to hand the chefs hat to your teenager or you want to help your youngest with their first ever culinary creation, these eight sweet and savoury recipes offer something for everyone. Phils easy-to- prepare dishes are perfect for giving children hands-on experience in the kitchen, inspiring them to cook fresh, healthy food. And thats not all: the Bramleys versatility means you can add a fruity tang to the simplest of foods whilst ensuring the children get one of their five-a-day.
Phil Vickerys recipes are:
For children aged 11-14 years Baked Bramley Apples with Pecans and Golden Syrup Bramley Apple Crumble Baked Chicken with Bramley Apples and Orange Glaze Green Fish Curry with Coconut Milk and Bramley Apples
For children aged 5-14 years Easy Bramley Apple and Sultana Teabread Bramley Apple and Yogurt Fool Juicy Pork Patties with Spicy Bramley Apple Sauce Potato, Bramley Apple Herb and Tuna Frittata
Phil says: Encouraging kids to cook from an early age is really important as it teaches them to appreciate good food and learn about nutrition, as well as developing cooking skills.
Baked Bramley apples were one of the first things I learned to cook when I was younger and I want to share with a new generation just how easy it is to make this and other simple, tasty dishes using this most versatile of ingredients.
All recipes are available on www.bramleykids.com, a free online resource for teachers and pupils, and www.bramleyapples.co.uk.
Notes to editors: The Bramley Campaign is funded by Bramley apple growers, with assistance from the EU For further information about the Bramley Campaign please visit: bramleyapples.co.uk Please note: Children should always be supervised when cooking
The Bramley has a low sugar to acid ratio compared with other apples which causes its outstanding tangy flavour to be retained after cooking. The texture of Bramley once cooked is light and moist due primarily to its higher water content. It is these unique properties that make the Bramley so beloved of professional chefs and home cooks alike.
