Balti cuisine, famed for tickling the taste buds in Birminghams celebrated Balti triangle and a popular match day pie variety at soccer grounds across the country, has now been teamed with a great British favourite, baked suet pudding. New Chicken Balti Pudding is the latest addition to the best-selling Great British Pudding Company range and offers a tasty, authentic, curry filling, in a rib-sticking, golden suet crust. At 370g, it is a man-sized portion and can be microwave reheated from frozen in 6 minutes, with spices like cumin, cardamom and coriander, as well as kalonji seeds in the crust, contributing to a true Balti taste.
Aimed at the foodservice sector and chip shop trade, the Great British Pudding Company has been developed by frozen foods producer Glendale into an increasingly attractive brand, progressively finding its way onto pub, club, restaurant and canteen menus. Supplied pre-baked and quick frozen, the product delivers the eye appeal of crisp, golden suet pastry and an appetising plated appearance, in a convenient, no-prep format.
Adding to popular GBPC varieties like Steak & Kidney, Lamb & Mint and award-winning Steak, Mushroom & Ale, Glendale now adds spicy, exotic Chicken Balti, tweaking a successful formula to introduce a unique Anglo- Asian flavour. Perfected in Glendales own development kitchen, the recipe features chunky chicken breast meat, marinated and cooked in an authentic curry sauce that will be appreciated by Balti lovers.
Echoing an ingredient commonly added to traditional naan flatbreads, small black kalonji seeds have been introduced to the suet crust to create a distinctly flavoured pastry. Prized for their nutlike, somewhat peppery taste, kalonji seeds have an oniony aroma, adding to the Balti experience.
In common with other varieties, Chicken Balti puddings come in 8 x 370g trade packs and special 3-for-2 offers are often available through wholesale distributors. Competitive trade pricing usually offers realistic menu mark-ups of 4-5 per serving and Glendale provides free table talkers promoting the Great British Pudding Company range, for foodservice operators and the fish & chip trade. For staff training, there is also a handy leaflet explaining how to serve up a piping hot pudding in just three steps and six minutes.
