80% OF LONDONERS VISIT A RESTAURANT AT LUNCHTIME ONCE A WEEK
70% OF LONDONERS EAT OUT AT RESTAURANTS BETWEEN THURSDAY AND SATURDAY
TOP 10 COOL PLACES TO EAT IN LONDON REVEALED
Gilgamesh is revealing new research demonstrating the depth of the London dining scene, detailing top cuisines (British & Italian) and the rise in lunchtime diners.
Lunchtime restaurant visits are just as popular as the evening ones now with around 80% of Londoners visiting a restaurant at lunchtime at last once per week. 6 out of 10 Londoners eat out a restaurant weekday evenings whilst 70% of those going out to a restaurant to eat, do so between Thursday and Saturday.
Diners are likely to choose British or Italian cuisine at lunchtime with 54% opting for this although Asian cuisine is also quite popular. Furthermore, Indian is amongst the top three choices for men at 43% whilst for women it is Chinese at 31%. French cuisine is falling down the ranking with just 28% of men and 23% of women wanting this at lunchtime and 31% and 33% respectively plumping for it in the evening. Evening choices are also centred on Italian cuisine with 64% of women choosing this and 55% of men. Closely followed by Indian British and Chinese.
According to London diners, Camden is on the rise being cited as the 6th most cool district in which to eat ahead of trendy Shoreditch and Notting Hill - indeed 6 out of 10 non-Camden residents would consider it as an area in which to eat out. Traditionally established dining areas like buzzy Soho and Covent Garden not to mention respectable Kensington and Knightsbridge are still sought after dining destinations.

- Mayfair 20%
- Marylebone 14%
- Chelsea 15%
- Camden 13%
- Notting hill 12%
- Shoreditch 11%
- Knightsbridge 10%
- Clapham 7%
Overall however, 50% of London diners believe that the city has a more vibrant restaurant scene than other cities that they have visited, with just 2% believing that London had a less exciting restaurant scene than elsewhere. Long live the London dining scene!
