Get 'High Chai' at VEDA: VEDA Launches an Innovative Vegetarian Afternoon Tea

(19 June 2019, Hong Kong)

VEDA, Hong Kong's ground-breaking flagship vegetarian restaurantwill be launching an innovative vegetarian afternoon tea menu, featuring both savoury and sweet bites along with an array of organic Pukka Teas, coffees, fresh-pressed juices or sparkling wine, starting at HK$220 per person, or HK$408 for two.

To start, afternoon tea lovers are spoiled for choice with refreshing beverages at VEDA. Tea drinkers can choose from a variety of all-natural Pukka Tea infusions, including ChamomileCinnamon, caffeine-free Peppermint or a sweet Vanilla Chai. Two fresh-pressed juices (+HK$68) are offered, including Recovery, a balanced combination of carrot, beetroot, apple, celery and spicy ginger, or Hearty Green, a veggie mix of kale, cucumber, celery, green apple and a dose of nutritional Spirulina.  Lastly, a selection of champagne graces the beverage list for anyone feeling naughty.

Central's favoured vegetarian restaurant will offer a variety of savoury plates in the afternoon tea including a hearty Cottage Cheese Wrap and a light, baked Shiitake Mushroom Tart. The gluten-free Pao de Queijo, a flavourful freshly-baked Brazilian cheese bread, also graces the savoury list, alongside the vegan-friendly Mini Avocado Toast and aromatic Sun-dried Tomato Pickle Toast. The Veggie-lentil Cake, which is both gluten-free and completely plant-based, is a unique dish on the menu definitely worth trying.

Those craving a little something sweet can indulge in the Homemade Granola with Yoghurt and Earl Grey Compote or the fluffy but satisfying Orange, Olive Oil & Rosemary Cake.

“We're excited to introduce a unique and healthy afternoon tea to our crowd of increasingly loyal customers at VEDA,” says Ovolo Hotels Hong Kong Chief Operating Officer Tim Alpe. “A mix of vegetarian treats of both sweet and savoury and an extensive selection of beverages makes for a wonderful, relaxing experience at our cozy space.”

VEDA's brand-new High Chai afternoon tea is available every day from 3-5:30pm.

About VEDA

VEDA is Hong Kong's first vegetarian hotel restaurant. Opened in 2019, the ground-breaking all-day dining concept promises to serve up feel-good vegetarian food by the renowned Australian Chef Hetty McKinnon of Arthur Street Kitchen fame.

VEDA's exceptional food offering is supported by a specialty all-Australian drinks menu featuring coffee from Porter Street Roast by Pablo & Rusty's and wines by the glass and bottle. Seven classic cocktails, one for every day of the week, will be crafted using artisanal spirits.

About Hetty McKinnon

In 2011, Hetty established Arthur Street Kitchen, a community kitchen with a simple concept: local food for local people. From her inner-city terrace kitchen in Surry Hills, Sydney, Hetty dreamed up and cooked flavor-packed, hearty, seasonal salads, which she delivered to locals on her bike.

In 2015, Hetty - with her family and Arthur Street Kitchen in tow - relocated to the rather larger neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City. Here, she has continued to build meaningful relationships via her creative pop-up events, workshops, lunches and dinners.
