A North East food festival is set to return to the streets of Darlington after a hugely successful first year.

Distinctly Delicious – Darlington Festival of Food brought around 45,000 visitors to the town over the three day event earlier this year.

And now organisers have revealed their plans to run the event again in 2015, with a new programme of food-related events and activities over the weekend of May 8 - 10.

“The first festival was such a hit that bringing it back for a second year was an easy decision to make,” said Alex Hirst, BID Manager for Distinct Darlington.

“It was a massive success and many food producers commented that they sold out on each of the three days the event ran. People really got involved so hopefully next year's will be even bigger and better."

The 2015 festival will see the two day producer's market double in size to showcase the high quality products that Darlington and the surrounding area has to offer.

The Distinctly Delicious Street Food, which features food from across the north, will also be returning alongside a producers' market and demonstrations from chefs from leading venues including Rockcliffe Hall and Houndgate Townhouse.

The festival will also mark the return of the second Distinctly Delicious Market Awards, product tastings and various drop-in workshops.

And organisers are once again planning to bring back the centrepiece of the 2014 event - The Locomotion Cake Parade - this time on a Hansel and Gretel inspired theme.

There will also be some new additions to the 2015 festival such as the Distinctly Delicious Festival Supper which will be held on the eve of the event. The supper will celebrate all things Darlington and will include food cooked by local chefs from local ingredients along with live music and local beer.

In the run up to the next food festival there will also be a range of promotions and special events put on by shops, restaurants and hotels in the town centre.
