Ananas Bar & Brasserie Celebrates their First Birthday with a 'Hat'

Ananas Bar & Brasserie

There is plenty to celebrate this September at Ananas Bar & Brasserie. Today, this French brasserie in The Rocks, Sydney, turns one and has received a very special birthday present, its first 'hat' in the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide 2014.

Executive Chef Paul McGrath, who joined the team earlier this year, has gradually been adding his own touches to the brasserie menu including signature house-made charcuterie of terrines, parfaits and rillettes.

McGrath's food has been inspired by more than two decades of cooking in both European and Australian restaurants, where his passion for local produce has inspired a menu that is French in technique but totally modern in execution, and occasionally cheeky. Roasted Pork Belly is accompanied by a Crepinette of Pigs' Ear while classic Salade Lyonnaise gets a makeover with Confit Chicken.

The seasonal menu combined with vibrant, brasserie-style dining is cementing Ananas as the place to be seen for a quick CBD lunch and a glass of wine. In the Brasserie, the weekly $26 Plats Du Jour menu starts the week with Minute Steak and ends with Moules Frites on Fridays.  Lunch has also now extended into the Bar with an all-new menu being served from the Oyster Bar with the best of the season shucked, peeled and prised open on the spot.

In the evening, McGrath's spring dinner menu in the Brasserie includes a new feature Menu Fermier (Farmer's Menu), designed for the table to share ($65pp). This includes a selection of Charcuterie, followed by Mussels, then a choice of either Navarin of Braised Lamb or Cassoulet of Confit Duck, ending with with patissier Yves Scherrer's Ananas Four Ways, a gorgeous quartet of pineapple treats.  Of course, if there is still room, diners must try the Salted Caramel Éclairs.

Many a celebration will be taking place in the glamorous French Mediterranean-style bar, widely recognised for its extensive selection of Champagnes (at some of the nicest prices you'll find in Sydney) from the biodynamic houses Larmandier-Bernier and Egly-Ouriet as well as Grand Marques Dom Perignon and Bollinger.

Be sure to visit during September and join in the celebrations with a glass of your favourite French bubbles.

About Ananas Bar & Brasserie

Ananas means 'pineapple' in more than 25 languages and has for centuries been a symbol of hospitality and welcoming. Set in one of The Rocks' most captivating landmark historic buildings, Ananas' contemporary take on French glamour is a refreshing addition to Sydney's dining and bar scene.

Part of the ArgyleXchange
precinct, Ananas recalls Europe's most celebrated venues. This is somewhere for Sydneysiders to come for a quick, light lunch or settle in to dine, drink and enjoy the unmistakeable sense of joie de vivre during the day, evening or until the early hours.

Ananas Bar & Brasserie is one of a trio of great restaurants surrounding The Argyle at the newly invigorated ArgyleXchange. Shaun Presland's Sake Restaurant & Bar has been winning over diners with his modern take on
Japanese cuisine since 2009, while The Cut Bar & Grill has recently welcomed Grant Croft to the role as head chef of this New York-inspired steak restaurant.
