A Bid To Launch Colonel Fox London Dry And Gentleman Badger Sloe Gin

Cremorne 1859

On Tuesday 11th February 2014, Colonel Fox and Gentleman Badger will take residence in the Hoxton hotel, in a bid to launch their stupendously delicious Colonel Fox London Dry Gin and Gentleman Badger Sloe Gin. The launch will be conducted by way of a special auction, bringing Colonel Fox and his friend Gentleman Badger to the British public via two of the nations biggest loves, the union of art and gin.

This unique collaboration between the art and spirit world, will bring art fanatics and gin enthusiasts together  giving them a unique opportunity to purchase one off pieces by revered artist and author Charlotte Cory. The taxerdermie artist's illustrustrations are responsible for bringing to life the spirit of Colonel Fox and Gentleman Badger. The pieces, created especially for the evening and inspired entirely by the Fox and Badger, will give attendees the chance to own a little bit of history direct from the studio of the artist responsible for both of the gins' astonishing label designs.

As part of the celebration guests will also be given a taste of tradition as they sample the Colonel Fox London Dry Gin and Gentleman Badger Sloe Gin. Unashamedly celebrating the integrity and history of traditional London Dry Gin, served in Gin & Tonics and in whimsical cocktails, showcasing the magical quality of both products. Colonel Fox and Gentleman Badger with juniper at their heart are steeped in tradition, with their high-shouldered traditional gin bottles, which are adorned with the artwork of Charlotte Cory. By reworking Victorian photography and combining this with her own imagery, she has famously created a completely fantastical alternative 19th Century in which the Colonel and the Badger play a central part.

Charlotte explains the reasons behind the brand name and image

"1859 was a momentous year when two amazing things happened.  Darwin published the Origin of Species and the Victorians were shocked to learn that they were in fact animals.  At the same time, photography became cheap enough for everyone to be able to afford to have their picture taken. The Cremorne Pleasure Gardens on the banks of the River Thames at Chelsea were also at their height of popularity.  So naturally, my Visitorians (characters derived from cartes-de-visite and taxidermy) loved their food and drink and the enjoyments in the park which were presided over by no less a figure than Colonel Fox who concocted his own delicious gin - which we are lucky enough to be able to enjoy today.  A traditional classic drink imbued with hints of the excitements of the time."

Cremorne 1859 is a unique collaboration between experienced mixologists Richard Herbert, Stuart Ekins, Antoni Heatley and the artist Charlotte Cory, whose pictures adorn the labels. The London Dry Gin is produced by Charles Maxwell, owner of Thames Distillery. Made from a classic London Dry recipe, just six botanicals are deemed essential to the flavouring of Colonel Fox's London Dry Gin, produced using traditional methods. Juniper from Italy, Bitter Orange peel sourced from Morocco (gives freshness), Cassia bark (produces an aromatic spice), Angelica root (helps to make the gin dry), Coriander seed (releases lemon and a peppery finish) and Liquorice root, which gives sweetness and a creamy mouth feel.

Gentleman Badger's Sloe Gin is a result of macerating the finest sloe berries in high strength Colonel Fox's Gin. Distilled to a proprietary recipe of the founders requirements, representing Gin as it should taste. Produced in small batches of 1000 bottles per production run from 500litre John Dore Pot stills, with a Maceration Time of 12 to 15hrs.
