Aldi�s Christmas wine range offers a range comprising of 16 bottles that suit any palette. Whether it�s Red, White or Sparkling, French or Australian � every region, grape and price bracket is covered at Aldi.
There are several new wines joining the 2008 Christmas range including a Pouilly Fume, a Pessac-Leognan, and a Barolo.
Christmas White wines
� Domaine Fouassier P�re & Fils Pouilly Fum� 2007 Pouilly-sur-Loire France - �6.99
The flagship wine of the central Loire valley, Pouilly Fum� is an aromatic white made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc grown in chalky clay and flint soil that gives it its special �smokey� or flinty character.
� Bushland Chardonnay/S�millon 3 Ltr. Bag-in-Box Riverina South East Australia 2007 - � 13.99
Keep a box in the fridge over Christmas and the New Year so that you can offer a fresh and refreshing glass of chilled wine to anyone who calls � a blend of night harvested, cool fermented 55% Chardonnay and 45% S�million. Christmas Red Wines
� San Crispino Chianti Classico Riserva 2004 Tuscany Italy - �6.99 Made from 90% Sangiovese (St. Jove) and 10% Canaiolo grapes hand-harvested from selected hillside vineyards in the Classico region, between Florence and Sienna. � Ch�teau Le Bruilleau 2004 Pessac Leognan Bordeaux France - �6.99 Planted with mature 12 year old vines � 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon � the wine is vatted for 21 days and then all aged in oak barrels for 12 months before blending and bottling.
� Ch�teau Coutelin Merville 2005 St. Estephe Bordeaux France - �6.99 St Esteph (St Stephen) is the most northerly of the great M�doc communes and is famed for its sturdy, chewy wines. The wine is aged for a full 18 months in oak barrels, 25% of which are new each year. The wine will repay being opened and, if at all possible, decanted a good hour before serving.
� Ch�teau Soussans 2006, Margaux, Bordeaux, France - �6.99 This is a sous marque of Ch�teau Deyrem Valentin, a Cru Bourgeois in the village of Marsac in the centre of the Margaux appellation. The 12 ha. vineyard is planted with fully mature 30 year-old vines: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot. The wine is made in thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks and 100% barrel aged for between 14 and 18 months before blending and bottling.
� Rari Nobili 2004 Barolo Piedmont Italy - �6.99
The Emperor of red wines from Piedmont in north west Italy. It is made from three separate clones of the Nebbiolo graoe � lampia, Michet & Ros� � that were hand picked and following crushing spent 15 days macerating before fermenting in oak. The young wine was then matured for three years in French oak one to four year old French barrels. Open a good hour before serving to allow the bottle to come up to room temperature.
� Bushland Cabernet/Shiraz 3 Ltr. Bag-in-Box Riverina South East Australia 2007 �13.99 Keep a box on the sideboard over Christmas and the New year so that you can offer a glass of red wine to anyone who calls. � Grand Mori Prosecco nv DOC Veneto Italy - �4.49
Prosecco di Conegliano Valdobbiadene, to give it its full name, is a scintillating sparkling wine made in a tank from at least 85% Prosecco grapes blended with no more than 15% Verdiso, Perera or Bianchetta. Served chilled Prosecco is an attractive �Fizz� that as well as providing a refreshing aperitif is often used as the base for cocktails like Bellini (with peach juice) or Mimosa (with freshly squeezed orange juice). � Philippe Michel Cr�mant de Jura Blanc du Blancs Brut 2006 Jura France - � 5.99
This award winning sparkling dry vintage Chardonnay often served by choice by those who know their champagnes! The grapes were harvested on the slopes of the Jura mountains that separate France from Switzerland, made into a dry white wine which given its second fermentation in the bottle, just like champagne.
� Veuve Monsigny Champagne nv Val du Marne France - �9.99 After bottling, this wine spent three years resting on its first cork at a constant 10�c in chalk cellars 30 metres below ground. Low �dosage� of 9 g/l helps create a crisp, refreshing straw coloured champagne with a clean palate and persistent bubbles that has sufficient body to accompany light un-sauced dishes.
� Champagne Carlin 1er Cru Brut nv Montagne de Reims France - �14.99
A light aperitif style nv champagne made from a blend of 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay 1er Cru grapes. Carlin is a sous marque of the House of Cattier, based in the village of Chigny-les-Ros. Premier Cru champagnes are created from grapes grown in just 42 of the 301 villages in the Champagne region. Christmas Dessert Wines & Port
� St. Amandus Beerenauslese 2006 Rheinhessen Germany - �3.99 50cl
A most special German wine made from selected late harvest berries, mainly Ortega and Optima. The grapes were individually picked by hand for their quality and ripeness to produce a full and sweet wine with delicacy and charm. An ideal partner with cakes, biscuits and light desserts.
� St. Amandus Eeiswein 2004 Rheinhessen, Germany - �5.99 50cl
One of the great German marvels; a wine made from grapes that were harvested when they were frozen to �7�c. It is made from different varieties of hand-picked grapes that were pressed while still frozen. Although Eiswein can be served with desserts, it is perhaps at its best sipped with friends beside the fire late into the evening.
� Ch�teau Romer du Hayot Cru Class� 2004 Fargues Sauternes France - �6.99 37.5cl Ch�teau Romer du Hayot has 16 ha of 30 year-old vines planted on a clay and gravel crest. The wine is made from 70% S�millon, 25% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Muscadelle that are picked over by hand in four or five passes, the skilled pickers selecting the ripest fruit, specially those berries blessed by the Noble Rot of botrytis cinerea. The grapes are pressed and fermented in small tanks, one for each pass and variety, and then aged for 24/36 months in oak casks before blending and bottling. � Fletcher�s Ten Year Old Tawny Port Douro Portugal - �7.99 Nothing so improves a hot or cold mince pie, plump with exotic dried fruits, as a glass or two of Ten Year Old Tawny Port. This is the style of Port can be enjoyed with cheese and nuts. And when you have finished put the cork back and you can keep it in a fridge for a few days. Excellent served chilled and, as a bonus, is one of the very few wines that you can safely serve with chocolate.
