Lucky Chan, Crown's renowned Chinese restaurant has re-opened after a AU$6,000,000 upgrade and re-location. The restaurant now takes pride of place on the coveted Crown riverside.
Seasoned restaurateur and owner, Andy Ng oversaw the completion of the 270- seat, AU$6,000,000 upgrade which further cements Lucky Chan's positioning as one of Melbourne's best Yum Cha and a la carte Chinese restaurants.
An added feature to this newly opened restaurant is the shift from your mainstream menu to the revolutionary i-Pad, taking them on a visual journey before ordering their meal. Upon arrival, guests are presented with a 10 second i-Pad video about Lucky Chan; guests can then peruse the i-Pad's menu of dim sum, live seafood, main courses and more. The new i-Pad menus state all main ingredients of the dish, making it easier for the diner to make an educated ordering decision.
No Chinese restaurant is complete without a fish tank brimming with eye-catching creatures from the sea, and the 1.5 tonne, 1.2 metre high tropical fish tank at the entrance is no exception. It is the second largest curved glass tropical fish tank in Victoria, apart from Melbourne Aquarium. The incredibly rare species of goldfish displayed in the tank are not only a visual delight but also enhance the Feng Shui of the restaurant.
Designed by hospitality experts, Webb+ and Schiavello, Lucky Chan pairs traditional Chinese design elements with modern flair. Dark browns and deep reds add richness to the new interior décor. The restaurant's Hans J. Wegner-designed chairs are an instantly recognisable design feature. Known widely as the world's most beautiful chair and affectionately known in the design world as simply, "the chair", it was made famous by magazine 'Interiors' in 1950 and was used in the televised presidential debate between Nixon and Kennedy in 1960.
Lucky Chan's most coveted dishes, include the spicy quail, Shanghai style hot and sour soup, King prawns with Imperial sauce, kung po chicken, Peking Duck and fillet of beef with Szechuan sauce all still feature on the menu. Dishes range from $9.50 for assorted dim sims or dumplings. For those looking for a decadent dish need look no further than the supreme Shark's Fin soup which at $135.00 per portion, may be Melbourne's most decadent soup.
Lucky Chan boasts three private dining rooms, an outdoor terrace, booths, and Yum Cha tables.
The two private dining rooms located on the ground floor each seat 12 guests and can also be transformed into a single private dining room. The third private dining room upstairs seats 14 guests with the utmost privacy, and close proximity to the restaurant's wine cellar which stocks large quantities of premium Penfolds wine, including prestigious Penfolds Grange from many vintages.
