Acclaimed Indian restaurant the Indian Ocean in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester is widening its portfolio and stepping into the world of event and wedding catering.
The establishment has long catered for large parties and events in-house and has been catering for small numbers of external bookings for some time but owner, chef and entrepreneur Nahim Aslam wants to turn his focus to the bigger outside catering market.
With 25 years experience in the curry industry, Nahim feels there is a gap in the catering market for specialist Indian cuisine. He explains, “We’ve been in the curry business for a long time and we know our trade inside out. Although there are many fantastic caterers out there a lot of the time when they try to turn their hand to Indian food, the standard can drop and that’s where Indian Ocean Catering comes in.”
The team are keen to meet event organisers, venues and wedding planners across the North West who are looking for a high-class Indian caterer. Indian Ocean Catering don’t want to replace existing caterers or in-house kitchen teams at hotels and other event venues, but partner with them to offer genuine, authentic Indian options to their menus.
Nahim leads a dedicated team of first class specialist chefs with the skills and passion to produce the finest traditional Asian flavours. They pride themselves on producing the genuine article and their menus reflect the culture and traditions of South Asian cooking. “Our chefs have been drawn together from some of the most prestigious hotels across the Indian sub-continent and between them they have hundreds of years of cooking experience”, says Nahim. “This knowledge and skill can be tasted in our food and because of this we feel we can offer some of the best Indian cuisine around.”
Indian Ocean Catering’s services don’t stop at the food. The fully fitted catering kitchen has been specially configured to handle all the requirements of large scale catering. The team have the knowledge to handle all the challenges event catering can present including logistics, health and safety, staffing and the customer service requirements. Indian Ocean Catering provides a full certified service covering all aspects of health, hygiene and other catering regulations.
A new purpose built website has been developed, along with other marketing and sales literature in a bid to target the region’s leading hotels, exhibition halls and events companies. Over the coming months Indian Ocean Catering will be holding a series of exclusive tasting evenings at their Tameside restaurant base to encourage those in the events, catering and hospitality business to try their offering. “We feel we’ve got something unique to offer the wider catering market and we’re really keen for hospitality managers, PA’s, marketers and others in the events trade to come and try our food for themselves”, says Nahim.
As well as targeting the general catering market, Indian Ocean Catering is particularly keen to become an established caterer for the Asian Wedding market. “We have the knowledge and first-hand experience to deal with the complex subject that is Asian Weddings”, continues Nahim. “From Mendhi through to the Shaadi and Walima we can put together suitable Halal menus, working to budget, dietary requirements and time schedules."
