GHMs Legendary Bali Resort, The Legian, wins Wine Spectator 2009 Award of Excellence

General Hotel Management (GHM)

The Restaurant at The Legian has been awarded a 2009 Award of Excellence by Wine Spectator magazine for its selection of 185 fine international wines, with a particular focus on the vineyards of Australia and France. This is the second consecutive year that The Restaurant has won this award.

The Restaurant at The Legian is a spacious bistro with an expansive terrace overlooking the hotel pool towards the ocean, and serves contemporary European cuisine with Asian influences.

The Legian first received the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2008 for having one of the most outstanding restaurant wine lists in the world. Other GHM properties that have been recognised with the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in previous years include The Setai in Miami and The Datai in Langkawi.

GHMs hotels and resorts are well known primarily for their sleek contemporary Asian-influenced design and architecture, but fine food and wine are just as important a focus for us, said GHMs Director and President, Hans R Jenni. We are delighted that this has been recognized with the Wine Spectator Award.

Wine Spectator's Restaurant Awards recognize restaurants whose wine lists present interesting collections that are appropriate to their style of cuisine, while also appealing to a wide range of wine lovers.

There are three levels of awards, which are given to restaurants that meet various criteria. The Award of Excellence honors restaurants with wine lists that offer a well chosen selection of quality producers along with a thematic match to the menu in both price and style. Furthermore, they must have at least one hundred choices on their wine list.

We are extremely proud that The Restaurant at The Legian has received an Award of Excellence yet again from Wine Spectator. It is a testament to GHMs commitment to the guest experience, said Carla Petzold-Beck, General Manager, The Legian.

In recent years, The Legian has been presented with a number of prestigious awards and accolades including TripAdvisors Traveller Choice Award in 2009 for Top 10 Luxury Hotels in Asia, SmartTraveler 2008 award for one of best boutique hotels in the world and The Ultimate Spa Guide Award 2006 as one of the top spas in the Asia.
