Food and Wine on Q Discover the best Queensland produce, winter vegetables in peak production, tender beef and succulent seafood, quality wines and fragrant sweet strawberries at Food and Wine on Q from July 21 to August 1. Woks will fire up for Noodles on Q on Monday evening 21 July at QPAC. Six Brisbane restaurants will each present a delicious taste of Asia in a noodle box filled with seasonal Queensland produce perfectly matched with a glass of fine Queensland wine. $15.00pp (no bookings necessary)

Lunch on Q provides an opportunity to sample some of Queensland�s best produce and wine presented by Brisbane�s leading chefs. Brisbane�s new markets Brisbane has two new markets with the opening of a market in user friendly, city central Kelvin Grove Urban Village and another at Manly on the bay inspired by local farmers markets set in seaside villages on the Rivieria.

The new Kelvin Grove market is located on Blamey Street and will be an extension of the popular West End Flea Markets operated by Peter Hackworth. The promise is fresh fruit and vegetables, organic foods, gourmet stalls, plants, herbs, flowers, pre-loved clothing, bric-a-brac and buskers every week on Saturday.

Jan Power�s monthly Farmers Markets at Royal Esplanade, Manly has 70 stalls selling everything from pheasant and rabbits, seasonal produce including apples, pears, quince and grapes from the Southern Downs, bananas and pineapples from the Sunshine Coast and pumpkin, brussels sprouts and potatoes (over 10 varieties) from the Gatton area.

Get Whet in Tropical North Queensland The latest entry into the bar and dining scene in Tropical North Queensland at Cape Tribulation is Whet, a very cool bar with indoor and outdoor deck dining. Locals describe it as �not quite what you�d expect to find in the Daintree but that�s why it works.� The emphasis is on local produce, seafood hauled from the surrounding waters, fresh, clean flavours and a creative menu. Whet also includes a 24 seat air-conditioned cinema with huge beanbags, recliners and leather sofas - a great way to finish the evening or to enjoy a day of rainy, steamy rainforest weather. Winter Winelander a winner! The Winelander sets off from Brisbane to the Queensland wine capital, the Granite Belt, just twice a year. Bonjour, Brisbane! French-born Patrice Falantin has joined Sofitel Brisbane as Executive Chef. A graduate of the Lycee de Hotelier de Toulouse in France, Patrice has relocated to Brisbane with his family from Perth, Western Australia where for the past two years he has been working as an executive chef with Accor.

North Queensland winners The big winner in the 2008 Restaurant & Catering Queensland HOSTPLUS North Queensland Awards for Excellence was Barefoot Art Food and Wine on Magnetic Island, which took the Best Alfresco Restaurant and Best Themed Restaurant for 2008 awards as well as winning the highly coveted Restaurant of the Year title. Betty Blue and the Lemon Tart also took home Best Breakfast Restaurant and Best Caf� Restaurant. Hobbo�s Hut was announced Best Family Establishment as well as Best Seafood Restaurant. The winners of the North Queensland awards will go on to compete in the State Awards to be held in Brisbane on September 15 at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.

Dinner in the dark New Executive Chef at The Walnut Restaurant at Royal on the Park in Brisbane City, Gary Farrell, has introduced Dinner in the Dark for adventurous diners. The Walnut restaurant will be blackened out for dinner and the seven course degustation dinner with be served with a twist. Gary Farrell says its all about the food, the science of food, the way food reacts with the senses and about your own personal journey, without sight, relying purely on taste and sound. Gary is the youngest recipient of the prestigious �Black Hat� award in Australia, one of only seven awarded, and Captain of the Australian National Culinary Team for 10 years. Terrific tofu Ecoprama is a new company at Stanthorpe making tofu using a traditional Asian technique.
