Crystal Bay Prawns, famous for their sweet taste and fine texture were awarded 2 Gold Medals at the 2005 Sydney Royal Fine Food Show
The fresh Crystal Bay Prawns competed in the Aquaculture competition against tiger, black tiger and banana prawns. The Aquaculture competition was introduced into the Sydney Royal Fine Food Show in 2001 and has been welcomed by the industry with entries from all over Australia. The prawns are judged on flavour (taste, sweetness), visual appearance (uniformity of sample and colour), texture (vein), shell hardness (peelability), aroma and freshness.
Crystal Bay Prawns are grown adjacent to two world heritage listed regions of tropical Far North Queensland; the Hinchinbrook region near Cardwell and the Daintree Rainforest near Port Douglas. Seafarm is currently the largest prawn farm in Australia and the only prawn farm able to supply the market with fresh Crystal Bay Prawns 52 weeks of the year.
