In just one year, award-winning The Olive Grows has established itself as a lifeline for some of Londons finest artisan speciality food and drink producers and caterers.
From two London premises, in Bermondsey and Park Royal, The Olive Grows provides three HACCP certified, commercial kitchens for flexible hire to both established companies requiring extra capacity and, crucially, to small producers needing a previously unavailable stepping-stone from domestic kitchen to commercial premises.
As a result, over 20 passionate, small food producers have been able to supply such retail giants as Boots, Asda, Tesco, Waitrose, Sainsburys, Ocado, Harvey Nichols and Budgens; producing a vast range of high end foods, ranging from African Caribbean cakes and drinks, to Italian and Asian sauces to luxury ready meals and couture cupcakes. All of which might otherwise have been unable to make the break.
In a nurturing environment, committed to creativity and food excellence, The Olive Grows not only provides the physical facilities, launching such rising stars as stewed! and The Little Sauce Company, but also provides a supportive foodie community, where networks, experiences, business advice and information are developed and shared.
In this exciting, bustling atmosphere of possibility, dreams are followed, passions indulged, tastebuds tantalised and trends set, whether it is new recipes or entire concepts, of the My Food For You ilk, which deliver frozen, restaurant standard meals to your door.
As Marco Fontana-Ros, Chef-Patron of The Little Sauce Company explains: The Olive Grows provide us with a professional production environment, with all the necessary equipment and quality standards, but with the added flexibility of booking only when we are in production. This means we can invest more in product development, distribution and sales. As our sales grow we can increase production easily and at no capital cost.
And it works: an exceptional four clients, including Marco, have just hauled in six highly prized Gold Stars at the prestigious Great Taste Awards 2009, showing that the proof is most certainly in the eating.
The Olive Grows winners:
The Awards, organised by The Guild of Fine Food are the result of blind tasting by over 300 industry experts, chefs, restaurant critics and food retailers, and are acknowledged as the benchmark for speciality food and drink. It is, thus, with great pride that we congratulate our winners:

Notes to editors
The Olive Grows, founded by co-directors, Olga Astaniotis and George Poole, is a totally unique concept, offering professional, accredited kitchen facilities for flexible hire, 24/7, from as little as three and a half hours; thus keeping overheads to the minimum for small and start-up companies or providing overspill facilities for more established businesses preparing to make the leap into bigger premises. A rare and heartening example of a company symbiotically benefiting from the current economic climate, while helping others to counter it.
The Olive Grows will celebrate its first birthday in September 2009. In this short time demand has far exceeded expectations, resulting in opening the Bermondsey premises and in the company receiving the Park Royal Partnerships Best New Business 2008 Award and a Highly Commended New Business / Start Up Award at the Archant London 2008 Awards.
With the emphasis on high quality, speciality products, current clients include bakers, confectioners, international food and drink producers and ready meals,as well as caterers and cookery schools. They range from start-up companies, such as Sublime Canapes and Little Sauce Company, to established, growing businesses, including The Saffron House caterers and Angela Maliks cookery school.
Being geographically based at the heart of Londons food production industry in Park Royal and involved with a constant flow of young and growing companies means that Olga Astaniotis and George Poole are perfectly placed for spotting, gauging and commenting on trends within the food industry. The entry of African Caribbean foods into the mainstream, for example, or the increased demand for healthy, high quality convenience food, even including detox and weight loss programmes delivered to your door, in the instance of The Olive Grows client Nosh Detox.
