One of the UK's most competitive accolades in food and drink, the prestigious triple-star award is reserved for products deemed 'extraordinarily delicious' and is presented to fewer than 2% of entries. This coveted prize places the blend among the very best-tasting food and drink products in the UK.
Danelaw's other 2025 Great Taste Award-winning blends are Wilton Benitez Yellow Typica which picked up two stars and Brasil Mogiana, Rwanda Rwamatamu, Colombia El Indio Natural, Fjødr Light Roast, Nott Fjødr decaf, Nott Washed decaf and Nott Natural decaf which were all awarded one star.
Founded in 2022, Danelaw sources extraordinary coffees from around the world, roasting them to perfection at its Holmfirth coffee roastery. With almost 20 years in the coffee industry under his belt, founder, David Jameson, learnt his craft working for some of the world's most-renowned roasters, is a former judge at the World Barista Championship and a certified Arabica Q Grader – the equivalent to a wine sommelier in the coffee world. The independent brand has now won 28 Great Taste Awards in total since the business launched just over three years ago.
This Great Taste victory is especially poignant after a year that tested the limits of the business. Over the past year Danelaw has faced multiple setbacks, including two separate roastery fires and a serious injury suffered by David, who broke his leg last winter slipping on ice on his way to work, prompting an arduous six-month recovery,
Despite these unexpected hurdles, Danelaw has not only maintained its operations, it has grown. Against the odds, David and his team have continued roasting and serving top-quality coffee, launching a new retail site and recently opening a flagship coffee shop on Huddersfield Road in Holmfirth.
Danelaw Coffee's Founder, David Jameson, says: “It means the world to have nine of our coffees awarded with Great Taste Awards, including a triple-star win for our popular Mjólka blend. I'm proud beyond words.
“These wins are more than just recognition of flavour, they're a testament to the team's perseverance and dedication in navigating the challenges we've faced without wavering from the high standards we hold.”
“Thank you to the judges, the Guild of Fine Food and my brilliant team at the roastery and coffee shop.”
Danelaw's Mjólka blend, named after the Old Norse word for 'milk', is a blend of washed and natural coffees from Latin America and Africa, slow roasted to a dark colour and best enjoyed with milk. The Guild of Fine Food judges fed back: “This is an intensely dark roast which delivers some balanced bitterness. When drunk with milk, the bitterness really balances nicely. The judges loved the rich, nutty, smoky and treacle-like flavours and the bittersweet finish. A beautifully balanced dark roast that delighted us.”
Roasted freshly in Holmfirth every week, Mjólka and the other award-winning coffees can be purchased from Danelaw's Holmfirth coffee shop or on its website here: https://www.danelaw.coffee/shop/all-coffee
