Le Méridien Melbourne is hosting a cellar door-style tasting each month — quietly, generously, and just a little under the radar.
In a city brimming with places to drink great wine, Intermission at Le Méridien Melbourne is doing something quietly different. Equal parts wine bar and lobby lounge, the Bourke Street venue has recently launched a low-key monthly tasting series that brings the cellar door to the city — no vineyard trek required.
The format is simple: one winemaker, four expressive pours, a series of seasonal small plates, and a room full of people who prefer to talk terroir rather than shout over bar noise. Less seminar, more salon — guided but informal, social but refined.
Each ticket includes four generous glasses of wine — enough to justify the $45 price tag on its own — plus a curated selection of snacks that go far beyond your average canapés. Expect cheese and charcuterie boards, the bar's standout fried calamari with smoked whipped ricotta (a must-try), and bites designed to complement each pour.
The series made its debut last month with a discreet but full-house launch hosted by Penfolds. With just 25 seats and no major promotion, the event sold out well ahead of time — a signal that Melbourne's wine lovers were already taking note.
Now, Intermission is preparing to welcome Scorpo Vineyard & Wines for its second edition on Saturday 28 June. Based in Merricks North on the Mornington Peninsula, the Scorpo family has been producing thoughtful, small-batch wines since 2002, grown on rich, clay-based soils dating back 40 million years.
Winemaker Paul Scorpo will be on hand to guide guests through a curated flight that includes:
- 2024 Scorpo 'Aubaine' Chardonnay
- 2024 Scorpo Pinot Gris
- 2023 Scorpo 'Noirien' Pinot Noir
- 2021 Scorpo 'Eocene' Pinot Noir
Tickets are priced at $45 per person, with a limited number of places available. Previous attendees — including those from the inaugural Penfolds event — have already received access to first-release tickets. Future guests will be offered the same courtesy, receiving private invitations before the next date is publicly announced.
For now, this monthly wine tasting event remains an if-you-know-you-know kind of thing — but it won't stay a secret for long.
