Love is Brewing: 'Aphrodisiac' beer hits shelves to help get sour beer fans in the mood for Valentine's Day 

A SCOTTISH brewery has launched a raspberry 'aphrodisiac' beer charged with chocolate and chilli just in time for Valentine's Day.

Love Potion is the latest creation from Vault City, an innovative Edinburgh-based brewery renowned in the craft beer industry for crafting uniquely flavoured sours. The brewery's impressive back catalogue boasts inventive creations infused with everything from deep-fried caterpillar cake and WHAM! Bars to Wagon Wheel biscuits. 

Love Potion, with a punchy 6.8% ABV, is a juicy raspberry sour made with Cholaca (pure liquid cacao) and real habanero chilli flakes – two ingredients whose aphrodisiacal qualities are known for their abilities to liven up libidos. Vault City's brewers say the blend of juicy raspberries with velvety smooth chocolate and a delicate spark of chilli heat balances sweetness, richness, and just the right amount of fiery warmth.

While Vault City's co-founder Steven Smith-Hay can't guarantee Love Potion will invigorate the love lives of those who dabble, he still hopes it could create the spark that leads to a first 'Vault City wedding'.

He said: “Valentine's Day is just around the corner, and we knew some of our customers would be looking to add a little spice to their love life.

“Chocolate and a kick of chilli are a perfect marriage in a sour beer, and it also helps that those ingredients are considered to be aphrodisiacs. Who knows where that might lead, but how cool would it be if Love Potion inspired the first Vault City wedding?  

“We of course can't make any promises that this beer can improve your love life, but we do think – whether a beer lover or their significant other – that Love Potion will capture the hearts of whoever drinks it.”
