The Forest Distillery

Forest Distillery have revealed plans to expand production and effectively work off-grid whilst creating a world class Visitor Centre from their location as the UK's highest altitude distillery. The plans for the Cat & Fiddle include renovating and opening existing sections of the 200-year-old building, erecting a new botanical glass walkway linking areas of the distillery, creating a canopied courtyard for guests to enjoy and implementing a variety of systems to take their energy use off-grid, including wind turbines and a heat recovery system.

COO, Lindsay Bond : "We are so excited to move on to the next chapter for the distillery. Our single malt whisky production has always been about using local, sustainable ingredients. This next phase means that even the power used will be generated on site by the wind blowing all around us."

CEO, Karl Bond: "Our remote location on top of the hills has always been a problem for anyone trying to run a business here. The constant wind, driving rain and frequent snow meant that the old Cat & Fiddle Inn closed down in 2015. However, for us, the altitude means that we can distil at lower temperatures than at sea level. That, combined with the amazing cellars and natural spring water has meant that our business has actually grown since moving the distillery here. This next phase will ensure the longevity of the business whilst also helping us to achieve our ambitious sustainability targets.
