Ethical Hydration brand One Water today launches its biggest ever sales incentive with the UK's leading travel retailer, World Duty Free, a subsidiary of global travel experience player, Avolta. The decade-long relationship between One Water and World Duty Free - based on a shared vision of a world in which everyone has access to clean water - has meant that the travel retailer has contributed £2.7 million to projects around the world.
This year's incentive builds on the success of a similar road trip undertaken by Duncan Goose in 2023. The 8 top-sellers of One's bottled water will earn a place on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Malawi at the end of the year to see first-hand the impact of donations made through One Water sales. For every bottle of One Water sold, a donation is made to The One Foundation, funding clean water projects all around the world.
The campaign, the World Duty Free One Water Incentive, will run until the end of July, and will kick off with One Water Founder Duncan Goose visiting 14 high footfall branches of World Duty Free's stores in UK airports and at Eurotunnel Folkestone, covering a distance of 2,000 miles on his Honda Africa Twin Motorcycle. Duncan's 'lightbulb moment' to set up One was on a round-the-world trip he made in 1998 on the same bike: an encounter with Hurricane Mitch in Honduras inspired a new career in global development.
Sales staff will be further supported with branded One Water t-shirts and in-store sales display units to clearly communicate to World Duty Free customers what every purchase of One Water means to The One Foundation.
Funds from The One Foundation achieved via World Duty Free sales have been donated to rehabilitate water points and to bring water access back into communities and have particularly impacted work in Malawi's rural communities, where farmers are working to grow sufficient crops to feed themselves and their families. Donations have also funded the provision of gravity-fed and solar pumping systems, meaning that clean water is now readily available in schools and health clinics. Catastrophic cyclones have impacted areas of Malawi over the last three years, washing away houses and crops, and contaminating water points, so the funds that continue to be raised are vital, to help communities recover and regenerate.
To date, The One Foundation has raised over £30 million through partners such as World Duty Free, Bidfood, Co-Op, and Starbucks.
Duncan Goose, Founder of One Water and The One Foundation says,
“Water is essential for life, yet 703 million people globally still do not have access to safe drinking water and over 1.7 billion people lack access to a decent toilet. 3.4 million people die every year from waterborne diseases and sadly many are children under the age of 5 years old. Around the world, women and children often bear the responsibility of collecting water for their families and can walk up to 4 hours a day just to find water.
We want World Duty Free's fantastic staff to see for themselves what their hard work has contributed to. We thank them for their continued support, it means everything to us and the beneficiaries who they are supporting in sub-Saharan Africa. We hope the trip will inspire them. Their help has been life-changing for millions. We estimate that there are still 65,000 handpumps in Malawi that are in dire need of repair and World Duty Free are integral to facilitating change, one day at a time.”
Eve Fifer, Commercial Director for Avolta in the UK commented,
“As a company we are committed to supporting The One Foundation and the vital work they do, and our World Duty Free store staff are all extremely passionate about the brand and the projects the funding supports. For the duration of the campaign our entire UK business will be engaged in actively promoting the brand and its charitable giving to the thousands of travelers who visit our stores during the busy summer month of June.”

About One Water
The ambition of The One Foundation is to fund self-sustaining water solutions, to help create a world in which everyone has access to clean, safe water, forever.
By purchasing any of One's products, a donation is made to The One Foundation to fund life-changing water programmes. One Water and The One Foundation were founded by ethical entrepreneur, Duncan Goose back in 2004. Having returned from a round-the-world motorbike adventure, he was inspired by a photo in the Guardian newspaper of a young girl sitting next to a padlocked tap in Nairobi. Goose began his journey aiming to change just one life, one day at a time - hence the brand name. In 2024 ethical hydration brand, One Water, celebrates raising £30 million in partnership with The One Foundation. The multi-million pound fundraising milestone, achieved through sales of bottled water, corporate partnerships and donations, has helped to change the lives of over 5 million people around the world, bringing access to safe, clean drinking water for rural and urban communities and responding to humanitarian emergencies. One Water is carbon neutral certified, a signatory to the UN Global Compact and a founding UK B Corp. The range includes 100% recycled PET plastic bottles, cans made from 51% recycled aluminium, Tetra Pak with sugar cane caps, glass bottles made from 50% recycled glass and a pre-filled and refillable aluminium bottle made from 100% recycled aluminium: each variant with its own role to play in the category.
