Husband and wife led start-up, Take Stock (www.takestockfoods.com) makes 100% natural, Great Taste Award winning bone broths that are packed with flavour, collagen, and protein (RRP £6.99 per 500ml carton, 3 servings). Inspired by the slow food movement and childhood memories of Sunday's roast being transformed into a gently simmered, fragrant and nourishing soup, Take Stock is a gourmet bone broth that packs a real nutritional punch. Fresh, quality ingredients, responsibly sourced, and simply cooked, Take Stock is taking a stand against factory processed Frankenfoods with their versatile and conveniently packaged broths.
Take Stock's broth is prepared in small batches using traditional methods and natural ingredients for a delicious broth packed with flavour. Carefully sourced, meaty bones are first roasted in a hot oven to enhance their rich flavour; herbs and vegetables are added and intensely simmered in a slow cooker for up to 24 hours, to extract maximum flavour and nutrients; the broth is then strained to leave a clear liquid. Available in four varieties, choose from delicious and versatile food for the soul, Chicken Bone Broth; deep and hearty collagen bomb, Beef Bone Broth; for a sustainable and nutritious taste of the sea, there's Fish Bone Broth, and delicate and herby Vegan Broth.
Many broth brands reduce their liquid to a concentrated syrup, transport to a packaging facility then over-dilute it to bulk out the product. Instead, Take Stock gently pasteurises the bone broth to ensure that it remains shelf stable for up to two years, this low intervention production method delivers a deep, rich, and authentic broth which tastes just as if it was made at home but is a convenient store-cupboard staple.
Use the tasty broth in many ways, add Take Stock to classic soups, rich ramen, and fragrant pho; mix it into risottos and stews; use to add depth to your gravy; add to potatoes or cauliflower for a silky, healthy mash; round off your tomato-based pasta sauce; or, for an elevated pasta dish, use as a brodo base. The savoury broth fills a hunger gap between meals, making it a secret weapon for fans of intermittent fasting. Trying to cut down on caffeine? Swap in a comforting mug of Take Stock as a tea or coffee alternative. Up your Bloody Mary game with the rich, umami depth of beef bone broth. You can even add Take Stock to smoothies, boosting your protein and collagen intake.

Bone broth is sustainable by nature, saving unwanted offcuts and wonky veg that would otherwise be thrown away and turning them into one of the most nutritious foods available. A nose to tail philosophy and fully recyclable packaging means zero waste and a planned route to B Corp status. The Bone Broth is packaged and sealed in sustainable IPI packaging, with a resealable cap for handy storage and re-use, preventing wastage.
Take Stock are firm believers that we should consume foods that are as natural and unprocessed as possible, without additives or preservatives, with a comprehensible label. Take Stock's vision is to help build a world of healthier humans, without processed food, where the most convenient option is also the most nutritious, tasty, and natural. Take Stock is store-cupboard friendly, with a 24-month shelf life and easy-pour, resealable cartons that keep in the fridge for 3-4 days once opened.
The average cost of one serving of Take Stock Broth (150ml) is £2, cheaper than a takeaway coffee or a protein bar, but is one of the most nutrient-dense health foods available. With rising energy costs, skipping the 24-hour simmer will free up time, effort, and your gas bill, providing you with a great warming snack or a convenient cupboard staple to level up your home cooking.

TAKE STOCK BIOGRAPHY
Take Stock was founded by former Solicitor Jessica Higgins and her husband Ed Armitage, formerly in private equity, where he specialised in consumer research and e-commerce.
Having grown up with bone broth, with fond memories of her mum simmering leftovers from the Sunday roast, Jess began researching the nutritional side of bone broth after developing a serious gym habit, becoming engaged in nutrition.
During lockdown's home-schooling hell, Jess no longer had time to make her favourite bone broths, and as she and Ed had always had ambitions of starting their own businesses, they did their research and found no commercially available bone broth on the market, despite there being a large trend towards paleo, keto and bone broth in the US.
With four kids, they had a ready-made research pool, they tried dozens of recipes and stocks and broths currently on the market, but nothing was as good as homemade, Ed and Jess wanted to get as close to their family recipes as possible, whilst being very conscious of provenance, quality and sustainability; at the forefront of their mission was to make Take Stock shelf stable, this key point of difference enables the product to become a store cupboard staple and it's easier to store and ship, making it more viable from an e-commerce point of view.
Jess explains, “Take Stock was born out of our passion for the simplicity and nourishing benefits of quality bone broth. We love the taste and health effects of consuming bone broth, but with four children and busy jobs we were always short on time, without hours to simmer bones to feed our greedy crew.
With bare supermarket shelves at the onset of lockdown (and with the gruesome home schooling) we wanted something convenient and store-cupboard friendly, but also delicious and natural as a handy meal or snack. We spent months searching for the ultimate source of ingredients and production and following numerous experiments and blind tasting sessions the ultimate bone broth recipes were formulated. And the result - we took the plunge and decided to pour our savings (literally) into bone broth - Take Stock was born!”
NUTRITIONIST QUOTES
GUT HEALTH
“There are many ways to improve gut health, from adding in more plants or trying fermented foods. One area of emerging research in this area is the use of collagen rich substances to support the gut barrier integrity. Early studies show that dietary collagen may improve some digestive symptoms.” Dr Jenna Macciochi, Immunologist
“Bone broth is one of the easiest foods to digest because the long slow simmering allows amino acids and minerals to become more bioavailable. Because bone broth contains glycine and proline, it has an almost instant soothing effect on an inflamed gut, and I always recommend it to people looking to give their digestion a little TLC.” Naomi Delvin, Nutritionist
MENOPAUSE & FERTILITY SUPPORT AND SKIN & BONE HEALTH
“Collagen plumps our skin and makes up around 30% of the protein in our body. Declining oestrogen levels and the resulting loss of collagen in the body can lead to joint pains, tendonitis, and thinner skin. So dietary sources, such as bone broth, that are easily absorbed can do a lot to support skin and joints through peri and post menopause.” Naomi Delvin, Nutritionist
“Collagen is a rich source of the amino acid glycine (amino acids are building blocks of protein; some are essential, and we need to get them from our diet) and some are conditionally essential (under certain circumstances they become essential). Glycine is a conditionally essential amino acid that becomes essential in pregnancy. Collagenous products like animal broths or collagen and gelatine products are a rich source of this amino acid and so can offer a great source of this nutrient we might otherwise be lacking. During menopause, women lose up to 30% of their collagen. supporting and protecting collagen during this time with collagen rich foods like bone broth can support the body in maintaining their collagen levels.” Dr Jenna Macciochi, Immunologist
“Collagen provides strength and integrity to the structural protein matrix of the tissues that make up our body e.g., skin, bones, ligaments, tendons, and cartilage. We naturally lose collagen as we age and bone broth products which are rich in collagen can help provide a source of the building blocks to support our bodies own collagen. There are now studies showing that collagen can improve bone mineral density and skin appearance.” Dr Jenna Macciochi, Immunologist
