Grüner Veltliner is cooler than the Austrian morning mist! With crisp, citrus-zipped flavours that appeal to Sauvignon fans, it’s also got a savoury twist of white pepper, which pairs perfectly with food. 

UK consumption of the Austrian flagship varietal increased by 20% in 2021 - so it was firmly on Laylo Co-founders Laura Riches and Laura Rosenberger’s hit list for Laylo, their luxury boxed wine brand. 

Working with Master of Wine Clem Yates (MW) to find the perfect match, Laylo teamed up with Rob Krammer from the Esterházy family estate to create the Lot #11: Grüner Veltliner 2021.

The wine is made in the Burgenland, where rows of vines flow down to a picture-perfect lake and acres of forest. Morning mists keep the grapes cool, until they’re carefully picked and lightly pressed to retain all their delicious fruit, minerality and spice. 

The baroque oil painting that forms the backdrop of Laylo’s wine box represents aristocratic Austria. It features the Esterházy palace, while wealthy revellers enjoy music, dancing and wine.

Rob Krammer’s winemaking experience in the new world gives his Grüner Veltliner a unique vibrancy. In celebration, Laylo add “grüvy”(!) stickers to every delivery to encourage their customers to get creative… Wild animals from Krammer’s native South Africa, cheeky costumes and even a box of Laylo.
