Sharpham Dairy

The UK's first ever cheese dairy to be granted the B Corp certification, Sharpham Dairy, has just been awarded five Golds and one Silver in the Taste of the West Awards 2022. These accolades follow straight after being named joint winners of the Sustainability Trophy at the Virtual Cheese Awards.

The Taste of the West Gold winning cheeses are Sharpham Rustic, Sharpham Rustic with Chive & Garlic, Sharpham Rustic with Dulse & Sea Lettuce, and Sharpham Ticklemore. In addition, Sharpham Elmhirst received a Silver accreditation, with judges commenting “Fantastically gooey. Attractive and classy. Think Joanna Lumley and Hugh Grant.”.

Taste of the West champions food and drink producers across the six Westcountry countries and it is a real honour to have received their recognised mark of quality.

Sharpham Dairy's proud owner Greg Parsons says: “It's been an incredible couple of weeks. To receive these highly acclaimed awards by Taste of the West and Virtual Cheese awards is a real accolade to the hard work the team here has put in, producing the best cheese possible.”

Greg continues “With everything we do, we strive to do it in a manner that is environmentally friendly and sustainable for the planet. When we took over the dairy in 2019, my wife Nicky and I set out to use cheese as a force for good - cultivating a business that our team, suppliers, customers and retailers are proud to be associated with. Leading with our family values, we've created a culture of caring deeply for our business environment - putting profit for purpose at the heart of it all.”

“As for the quality of what we do, I believe the four Golds and a Silver at the Taste of the West Awards underlines that point better than any words I could say. We also received a Highly Commended accolade, along with a Gold for our caramelised fig chutney!”

Sharpham Cheese also received a commendation for its newly released Camembert, which was launched to celebrate Sharpham's 40th anniversary. This creamy cows' milk cheese is a unique combination of Normandy methods representing South Devon's terroir, putting Sharpham's stamp on this oozy favourite.

Sharpham Cheese is handcrafted with South Devon milk from the dairy's own herd of Jersey cows, along with goats and ewe's milk from their West Country neighbours. Over the years they have won outstanding awards including UK Supreme Cheese at the Global Cheese Awards and British Product of the Year in the Great British Food Awards, judged by Marcus Wareing.
