SHAKE YOUR WAY TO A MORE SUSTAINABLE FUTURE WITH NEW SUPER-NUTRITION, LOW-CARBON MEAL-REPLACEMENT SHAKE SUST
- SUST Founders say swapping 1 meal a day with a sustainable shake could potentially reduce your Co2 and food waste output significantly, as well as staying healthy
- “Insects are not the answer” says the brand's founder who believes long-term, sustainable solutions are needed for systemic change
- By sourcing the most sustainable ingredients, reducing food miles, banning plastic from packaging and off-setting carbon by planting a tree with every order, SUST believe it's created a super nutrition shake with the lowest carbon footprint on the market in its category
- SUST Launches just as the recent IPCC report states that catastrophe can be avoided if the world acts fast, and reducing greenhouse gases is one of the most effective ways to bring down the earth's temperature
- Joining the ranks of global companies such as Unilever who have launched their own labelling system, SUST is third-party Carbon Cloud verified, alongside brands such as Oatly, Estrella, WWF, and Tenzing
- SUST is working with Environmental-nutritionist Emilia Gordes on quick, realistic and smart changes that you can implement into your daily life to reduce personal Co2
- SUST is ECO-nomical too - swapping your breakfast, lunch or snack for one SUST shake can costs less than £1 per meal (based on purchasing 60 shakes - 92p per meal): easy on the wallet, better for the planet
SEPTEMBER 2021 : The UK's most eco-friendly healthy meal-replacement shake launches today: the result of a long search culminating in a nutritious low carbon-shake that supports a healthy lifestyle and a healthy planet.
A SUST shake has around 200 calories per meal, is low in sugar, low-cost, whole-food ingredients with low food miles, which make this an option for those ready to reduce their carbon footprint, reduce food waste, and embrace 'environmental nutrition'.
SUST has just become Carbon Cloud Verified. Carbon Cloud is pushing for climate transparency across the board in the food and beverage industry with some of the bravest brands in modern food signing up. SUST joins the likes of Oatly and WWF in being transparent about carbon emissions, and making it as easy as possible for consumers to make educated choices about what they consume.
SUST founders Ed Taylor and James Knight say,
“In the fight against climate change, carbon neutral simply won't cut it: what is needed is an eco-nutrition revolution. Insects are not the answer and neither are fake meats with 'impossible' sounding list of unknown ingredients' - we should be (and are) pushing for WHOLE FOOD plant-based nutrition that is mostly made from local not 'exotic' ingredients.
Food production can hardly be carbon neutral or truly sustainable. The first step is recognising and accepting this rather than covering it up. The next is working really hard with suppliers to always 'do the right thing' to reduce our impact. This means moving quickly with the times, regardless of cost, to ensure we adopt the most sustainable developments in agriculture and packaging.
The world does not need another shake business, the world needs businesses on a mission like SUST to help make sustainable choices easier and lower cost for the consumer.
The recent IPCC report highlighted to the world the importance of reducing Co2 gas emissions, but for many this may seem overwhelming. We know that switching to a plant-based diet is one of the easiest and most-effective ways to reduce personal Co2 footprint. We want our customers to know that there are small and effective things that they can do at home that are not too intrusive in their everyday lives. One of those things is swapping one or two of their meals a day with a plant-based meal, or one of our shakes. Not only can they be confident their carbon output will be lower, it will also make a difference to their rubbish - our packaging is 100% compostable. It is a very small but nonetheless helpful change, and it can be done without costing the Earth too.”
The SUST definition of 'eco-nutrition revolution' includes:
- Sustainable crops: It starts at the source with greener crops like hemp
- Green Factory: Demonstratable efforts in production to be carbon-neutral or as close to carbon-neutral as possible: SUST's factory runs on renewable electricity, with underfloor heating powered by the sun, employees that live close-by and rarely need to use cars to travel to work, and a ban on single-use plastics
- Reduced Food Miles: produce sourced within the same country where possible, with minimal imports, and a commitment to continuously strive to find partners from the same country
- Greener Delivery Services - SUST continuously strive to work with the greenest delivery services available
- Leave No Trace: Zero plastic, plus packaging that's easily recycled by everyone and compostable/ biodegradable
- Investing in reforestation and biodiversity: Instead of planting trees to hide our CO2's use we're investing in a sustainable future by sponsoring real eco-project,s making a real difference.
- Free from plastics - No plastic scoops, bags, bottles or poly-blend T-shirts in sight. We use FSC certified (RECYCLED) for our cardboard boxes and sustainable paper for our packaging, both of which are recyclable and will be recycled locally.
- Cost-effective: Accessible to as many people as possible - if you purchase 60 SUST shakes they are 92p each
- Carbon Cloud verification for 100% transparency on a product's carbon footprint
- Fully Plant-based: SUST's ingredients are not only coming from natural, simple, whole foods, but they are also minimally processed, naturally low in sugar, contain no food-additives or preservatives, are packed with fibre, healthy fats, great protein source and fully plant-based and are allergen free.
The founders of SUST say:
“We set out to create a satisfying, convenient, protein and fibre packed 200 calorie meal shake that is actually good for you AND the planet.
Each SUST serving is packed with energy (quality calories), contains plant-based sources of protein, omega fats, fibre and naturally occurring vitamins and minerals – and that's all within 200 cals. Each shake is 100% plant-based, gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan.
By swapping one meal a day for a SUST shake, you are actively making the choice to help the planet. It's a small change, but a significant one.”
SUST is working alongside Environmental-Nutritionist Emilia Gordes on easy daily changes we can all make in our lives for a more sustainable future, who says that SUST is an efficient way to fill up and stay nourished.
Emilia Gordes says,
“Never before has the old adage 'we are what we eat' been more true. With each food or drink we consume, we are sending out a message about how much we care about our planet's future, as well as for our health. Checking food products for environmental cues like carbon density or plastic use will soon be just as relevant and important as checking for caloric and micronutrient density of foods: our planet depends on these changes and everyone is taking part in the climate change countdown. If we do not care or refuse to see the unnecessary environmental destruction we can take part in with our food choices, food habits and diets, we simply choose to live in the dreadful ignorance responsible for the destruction of this beautiful planet. I'm delighted to be working with SUST and Carbon Cloud who are paving the way for ultra-low carbon products and environmental food solutions.”
A 7 day Discovery Box is available from the SUST site. Current SKUs include Organic Creamy Sunflower, Chocolate, Nutty Hemp, Hemp and Chocolate.
The most important meal of the day? At SUST we think it's a sustainable one.

About SUST Founders
SUST is the brainchild of Edward Taylor and James Knight. The idea for SUST started over 5 years ago. But it finally took off in lockdown last year. Like many, lockdown provided an opportunity for old school friends Ed and James to reconnect. Releasing that by combining their resources and a shared passion for environmental issues they had everything they needed to take SUST to market. They realised that although more and more people recognise they need to change their habits, many don't want to compromise their lifestyle too much. They wanted to remove those barriers by creating a meal shake that was an affordable, easy, healthy way to make a difference.
Ed had been working on the idea for a more sustainable meal shake for a while, one with a much lower carbon footprint than anything on the market but that didn't compromise on nutrition.
Shropshire-based Edward Taylor is the Founder of Purition Shakes and is a champion of the 'real food' diet, creating shakes that deliver nutrition through real ingredients, as an alternative to protein shakes on the market. Purition is selling over 50k shakes per week.
Bristol-based James Knight is Owner and Managing Director of SEMA4 Marketing Ltd.
