Iconic Coffee Brand Allpress Espresso Launches Specialty Capsules

On 12th July pioneering coffee roaster Allpress Espresso is releasing their signature Allpress Espresso Blend in Nespresso® compatible capsules for the first time ever. Two further blends from their iconic range will be released later in the year, along with an innovative, environmentally friendly “return-to-us” scheme allowing customers to post their empty capsules back to Allpress for recycling.

Allpress Espresso Blend is used by the best independent cafes in the world, and has now been redesigned for home. Their goal was simple – produce a capsule espresso as close to the cafe experience as possible. The result is unmistakable, the iconic flavour of your favourite cafe, redesigned for home. To achieve the flavour they were after, they reformulated their signature recipe to give extra depth and caramel sweetness, devised a new roast formula with a high peak temperature to maximise the solubility of the coffee, and created a super fine grind to give a slower extraction.

They've chosen aluminium for their capsules because they deliver the best flavour, and are infinitely recyclable. To ensure that the aluminium, and the coffee, are recycled properly, Allpress will be providing a simple solution for customers to send their used capsules back to their Roastery in Dalston for sorting. Allpress is also relaunching its 'Café Finder' app, first released over a decade ago, allowing users to browse the locations of nearby cafés pouring Allpress. Coffee drinkers can now search cafés by location, name or a variety of tags, including retail coffee, outdoor seating, vegan options and pet-friendly, to find a café that truly suits their needs. The app will show customers where to go to drop off their used capsules, too.

The Allpress Espresso Blend is made with Brazilian beans for body and sweetness, Colombian and Guatemalan beans for apple acidity and caramel, and Sumatran beans for dark fruit notes and earthiness.

Positioned at the premium end of the market Allpress Espresso specialty capsules retail for £6.50 per box and are available online at allpressespresso.com.

Co-founder Michael Allpress says, “It was important to us to respond to our community and their needs but without losing what is at the heart of our business and what Allpress is loved and known for - our flavour promise. Creating a coffee capsule was not a decision we took lightly, it was something that we knew we would have to get right. A lot of love, time and care has gone into the creation of the Allpress Espresso Specialty Capsule and the result is that we have created the best espresso capsule on the market. Allpress is a much-loved brand with a really special and inclusive community and culture. The Allpress Espresso Specialty Capsule allows us to bring this culture into more homes of those who love our coffee most.”

Allpress Head Roaster, Zach says “We didn't feel like most pods met our expectations when it came to flavour so we took the time to challenge the status quo and worked on creating a product that we felt stood up to the expectations of Allpress coffee. This meant going back to the basics and thinking about how the Allpress Espresso Blend could be adjusted to work best as a pod. We had to think about the roast profile, the mix of origins in the capsule and finally, finding the correct grind size that allowed the right amount of water contact and gave us the most balance to our cup. After rounds of trying, testing and perfecting, we reached a point where we were able to achieve the iconic Allpress Espresso Blend flavour, but adjusted uniquely to be suitable as a capsule.”

About Allpress:

In 1989, young coffee maverick Michael Allpress introduced his first coffee cart to New Zealand. His knowledge and passion grew rapidly, and soon he began roasting beans at the back of his garage to sell to cafes in Auckland City. Twenty years later, Michael and his business partner Tony Papas brought their laidback coffee-drinking culture to the pavements of Shoreditch. True to their New Zealand roots, the Allpress Roastery and Café in Dalston is a haven for Londoners to take a step back from their frenetic lives and unite over a great cup of coffee, all roasted on site using Allpress' signature Hot Air method. Allpress coffee is enjoyed globally, and have roasteries and cafés across Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Singapore.
