
JARR Kombucha, the premium fermented tea brand, is now certified organic*
JARR is the leading creator in the UK of organic kombucha with authentic character and taste.
Founded in Hackney, East London, in 2015, JARR is fermented for twelve days using just four simple ingredients: pure filtered water, organic Brazilian cane sugar, organic green and oolong tea, and a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast.
JARR's co-founder, Adam Vanni, comments:
"JARR was born in East London but is now being brewed in the grounds of one of the most historic beer breweries in the world - Brouwerij Liefmans, nestled beside the River Schelde in Oudenaarde, Belgium. Liefmans' iconic beers have been naturally brewed there using wild bacteria and yeast (just like kombucha) for over 300 years, and they are regarded by aficionados as some of the best sour beers in the world. We can't think of a better home for our kombucha."
At the end of 2018, JARR partnered with Duvel Moortgat, the fourth generation family of speciality breweries established in Belgium since 1871. The aim is to grow JARR's business faster in mainland Europe and around the world. Duvel Moortgat has a rich tradition of growing sustainable businesses that use only the best quality ingredients and procedures and, at the end of 2019, JARR began construction of a brand new, state of the art kombucha brewery in Belgium as part of the Duvel Moortgat family. JARR's goal is to share premium kombucha with more people than ever before.
Adam Vanni continues:
“Kombucha is only as good as the ingredients with which it's brewed, and here at JARR, we decided from the outset to use the best ingredients we could find. At the core of every brew is pure, three-stage carbon-filtered water with the perfect degree of mineralisation for kombucha fermentation. After the water comes the tea. JARR is fermented using two types of organic loose-leaf tea: The first is a Gunpowder Temple of Heaven Green Tea - certified organic, single estate grown and harvested in the Hubei Province of China. This tea is bright and fruity yet smooth, with a delicious aroma of dried apricots. The second is a Jade Dong Ding Oolong, which is certified organic and single origin from the Nantou County, Taiwan. This adds a creamy texture and aroma with a rich, floral sweetness and smooth finish. Together, these two teas provide a complex yet delicate base for the entire JARR range. Our sugar is organic Fairtrade Brazilian cane sugar, which provides the perfect food for our symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast (SCOBY). Finally, our SCOBY has been lovingly grown and cultivated since 2016 to create a perfectly balanced booch.”
JARR'S four flavours include 'Original', 'Ginger', 'Passion Fruit' and 'Raspberry'. They are best enjoyed ice cold directly out of the bottle, or on the rocks, or as an innovative cocktail mixer. Due to the balanced acidity, fruity notes and subtle sweetness, the range lends itself well to salads, quiches, fish and white meats, Moroccan tagines, and pies.
In the UK, JARR sells in the hospitality sector across Soho House, Claridges, The Dorchester, Sketch, The Ned, Tonkotsu, Caravan, and in retail through the likes of Harrods, Selfridges, Fenwick, Whole Foods Market, Planet Organic and Farmdrop.
As well as the UK, JARR can now be found in Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Malta, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Iceland, Greece, Portugal, Finland and Bulgaria.
