NICE Drinks

NICE by name, NICE by nature: London-based startup, NICE (www.nice-drinks.co.uk), has a singular purpose, to be “the nicest wine company in the world” – that means nice to the planet, nice to people and properly nice wine. NICE put wine in a can in 2019, launching Pale Rosé and Sauvignon Blanc in recyclable, slimline cans to Sainsbury's and Ocado (RRP £3, 250ml). 2020 sees NICE canned Malbec join the range, offering a wine for all tastes and occasions.

After much research and deliberation and with the input of their partner, six times wine importer of the year, ABS (www.abswineagencies.co.uk), NICE source their crisp & dry Pale Rosé from just outside Montpellier, their Sauvignon Blanc from Cotes de Gascogne, France and their Malbec from Argentina; all of the wines are suitable for vegans. NICE will never make you feel silly for not knowing about wine, it's a great-tasting, accessible drink for Hens going full Bride Squad as much as it is for connoisseurs on a train trip. Forget snooty waiters and hard to pronounce labels, let NICE worry about the wine, so you don't have to.

NICE were set to launch new 187ml cans to 2020's leading festivals and sporting events, when their busy diary was upturned they took the quick decision to launch the cans to trade. Working increasingly with delis, bottle shops, beach bars, restaurants and food delivery as well as selling direct from their own webshop and Amazon, NICE has proven to be ideal for those looking for easily portable, personally portioned, fast chilling wine – ideal for socially distanced drinking, amping up your Deliveroo and park hangs.

Another bonus to their light and perfectly portioned wine is that the cans are endlessly recyclable. NICE is conscious that we need to look after our planet – the team has made a long-term commitment to reduce single use plastic in their supply chain and they're on the path to becoming B Corp certified.

As part of their goal to be a positive force in the world, NICE is committed to helping the younger generation, having already offered a free CV clinic they are now mentoring small startups get on the right track and they're hosting a series of free webinars too. Co Founder Lucy Wright says, business is about more than just profit to us, we've been pretty lucky and we want to mentor, inspire and help others who are less fortunate boss their career and learn how to seriously hustle to achieve something”.

Regularly, NICE go even further with their mission, like launching Wine for Heroes with all proceeds going to the NHS, giving their followers a chance to win free parties and donating cases of wine to hard up beauty salons. They're just NICE like that.

Helping wine-drinkers have a NICE time whatever the occasion, working just as well at home as they do on the go – NICE's canned wine range is available now from Sainsbury's, Ocado, Amazon and www.nice-drinks.co.uk

ABOUT NICE

After forging a friendship through the food and drink start-up world, Lucy put the initial idea for NICE to Jeremy and he knew straight away it was the right concept, time and partnership to develop. Having witnessed the rapidly growing US canned wine market, which rose from a value of $5million in 2015 to $85million in 2018, alongside the surge in original ready-to-drink cocktails and canned craft beer in the UK, Lucy and Jeremy saw wine as lagging in terms of innovation. With their best in class branding, great-tasting wine and an irreverent, yet relatable, approach they are confident that NICE is the canned wine to lead the charge in disrupting the wine industry.

Lucy Wright

After graduating from University in 2012, Lucy went straight on to Co-Found Cuckoo Bircher Muesli, creating a food brand from concept to distribution with the range being stocked nationally, featured across national mainstream press and recognised with several awards (Lucy was included amongst Forbes 30 Under 30). Lucy was Head of Sales & Marketing opening over 2,000 distribution points including Tesco, Waitrose, The Co-operative, Ocado, Amazon Fresh, Bidfood, Selfridges, Whole Foods & Jamie Oliver. She grew revenue by 700% in year 2 to £1million and sold the business in 2016. Following this, Lucy founded Ananas Consulting, advising F&B businesses on their sales and activation strategies. She also advised the Welsh Government in their aim to increase sales of Welsh food and drink by 30% to £7billion in 2020.

Jeremy May

After a short career in Insurance, Jeremy moved across to the food and beverage world at 27 and spent the last six years helping build brands from their infancy into market-leading, internationally recognised brands. Having built the international business of Winterbotham Darby to £3million revenue in a little over two years, he joined Propercorn to set up their international business. After three years building the Propercorn brand across 10 markets across Europe and helping achieve a £25million valuation, he began working as a freelance consultant for some of the most exciting food and drink start-ups in the business. Most recently, Jeremy has been part of the leadership team at Vita Coco taking charge of 14 markets across Europe, Middle East and Africa.
