For those looking for a healthy but gorgeous sweet treat that will tickle your tastes buds, look no further that Pure Heavenly, Britain's first and only low sugar and dairy free (vegan) chocolate bar which was recently featured on BBC's Dragons' Den.
Having been unable to enjoy chocolate that didn't trigger his daughter's food intolerances, Stephen Conway set himself the challenge of combining his passion for nutrition and chocolate to create a product that would have all the taste of silky milk chocolate but without the dairy, gluten, soy, GMO and 'planet destroying' palm oil often found in normal chocolate.
Stephen spent two years taste testing and working with chocolatiers (along with two very willing taste testers) in a bid to find the perfect combination of ingredients. After multiple renditions, one of the many recipes created much excitement in the household.
Pure Heavenly replaces milk with rice cream to retain a silky texture and less than 2g sugar in each bar, without sacrificing the taste. To put that in perspective – the leading bar of chocolate in the UK has 56g of sugar – which is more than half the bar.
Stephen says: “There lots chocolate brands to choose from but none of them do what Pure Heavenly does.
“We have achieved the holy grail of combining dairy free and low sugar, without compromising on taste or mouth feel. Best of all it is very satiating as it doesn't spike your blood sugar like normal chocolate, which usually results in people finishing the whole bar and then feeling dreadful or even worse - guilty. We've sold over a million bars through our website alone so far, and we have thousands of 5 star reviews, so the proof literally is in the pudding (or in our case the chocolate!).”
Stephen rose to national consciousness with his appearance on Dragons' Den, where he successfully bid for an investment of £75,000 to help take his delicious and healthy chocolate brand to more people. The Dragons were fighting to invest and were blown away by the delicious taste. Stephen agreed a deal with Peter Jones on the show, but couldn't agree terms so decided to withdraw. Stephen says “Unfortunately, we couldn't agree terms with Peter Jones but loved every minute and are so grateful to the Dragons and the BBC for such an amazing experience”
The Dragons were also impressed on how Stephen managed to achieve £500,000 worth of sales from his website in the first year of trading.
Pure Heavenly comes in 'silk' (because there's no milk) and dark bars for those who enjoy that more intense taste that comes with a higher cocoa content. There are lots of flavours to choose from and even have a snack size range perfect for kids or people on the go.
Stephen adds; “With all the health challenges and a huge drive towards to cut out sugar from our diets, Pure Heavenly is the perfect treat. With the explosion in popularity of plant-based diets, our bars are great for vegans and vegetarians too, though you don't have to be one to LOVE our chocolate!”

Notes to editors
Pure Heavenly was founded in 2018 by Stephen Conway who, with no previous experience of making chocolate, set himself a challenge to create a delicious healthier dairy-free milk alternative chocolate bar that was also low in sugar for his two daughters who were lactose-intolerant.
The process to replace dairy with rice cream and to reduce sugar without affecting the taste took a lot of trial and error but when he found the secret formula the sales exploded. He now owns a factory in Scotland which only makes Pure Heavenly chocolate bars. The effort was worth it as he had created the holy grail of dairy free, low sugar milk chocolate that taste amazing.
Pure Heavenly milk chocolate alternative bars are free from dairy, soy, gluten, GMO and palm oil and have less than 2% sugar content.
