  • The nation is divided by just four percent over where to store their ketchup
  • Research by Dr. Will's reveals condiment fanatic Brits even BAKE with ketchup and 1 in 10 couldn't date someone who doesn't like the sauce.
  • A third of the nation are 'dippers' and insist ketchup must be served on the side.

It's the age-old debate, to refrigerate or to store in the cupboard.

But today Brits finally put the debate to bed. Tomato ketchup should be kept in the FRIDGE.

In a neck and neck race, a poll of 2,000 people across the UK found more than quarter (27%) voted to keep ketchup refrigerated, with the cupboard store narrowly missing out by just FOUR percent.

Today's research, by condiment brand Dr. Will's, lifts the lid on the nation's love affair with tomato sauce. The amusing findings show nearly one in 10 panic if they don't have a spare bottle of ketchup in the cupboard (7%) with a similar number confessing they take ketchup on holiday with them (6%).

And in the kitchen people don't know where to stop, five percent of those surveyed said they used ketchup to baked cakes, with one in ten confessing they couldn't eat vegetables without ketchup.

The poll showed men were twice as likely as women to cook home staples such as fish pie, pizza and shepherd's pie using a dollop of red sauce.

Avert your eyes if you aren't a fan, as a handful of the people surveyed by Dr. Will's believed they would 'think less of someone who didn't like ketchup' (4%).

Never mind bad breath, boring conversation or wishing you'd swiped left, ketchup fanatic Brits claim the love of sauce could be a relationship deal breaker – as further 1 in 10 admitting they 'couldn't date someone who doesn't like ketchup.'

Dr Will Breakey, founder of Dr. Will's said: “We know the nation is divided between fridge and cupboard but ultimately it depends on your sauce - our free from, all natural ketchup is best kept refrigerated as it doesn't contain nasty preservatives.

“We know the nation is passionate about ketchup, we want to help Brits to eat their favourite sauce without worrying about the health implications.”

The poll also revealed 'how' Brits eat their ketchup. A third identified as 'dippers' placing the sauce on the side of their plate (33%), second most popular were the 'squirters' (16%) and 'spreaders' (8%).

Dr. Will's is an all-natural range of sugar free ketchups, mayonnaises and dressings. The business was co-founded by Dr Will Breakey who saw an opportunity to make the nation's favourite sauces healthier.

Dr Breakey observed people were in the habit of smothering healthy food – such as vegetables – in ketchup unaware of the high sugar content. Today Dr. Will's ketchup consists of 27 per cent less sugar than those of the market and contains no added sugar.
