Discover the secret to making the Instagram-famous sauce, Penne Alla Vodka, with supermarket Aldi's recipe, using just a handful of pantry staples. The huge bourgeoning trend on social media has seen the likes of supermodel Gigi Hadid share her favourite homemade recipe* for the dish on her Instagram stories, and now you can perfect the vodka pasta at home.

Surprisingly quick and simple to make, serve up this crowdpleaser vodka pasta as a scrumptious Summer dinner that your friends and family will love. 

Ingredients

Serves 4

1 Shallot

3 tablespoons Unsalted Butter

2 tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil

2 cloves crushed Garlic

200g Passata

2 tablespoons Triple Distilled Vodka

450 g Penne Pasta

120 ml Double Cream

50 g grated Parmigiano Reggiano, plus more for serving

Fresh Basil

½ teapsooon Crushed Chillies

Salt

Crushed Pepper

Method

Heat olive oil in a saucepan, add the shallot and garlic and cook until softened

Add the passata, chilli flakes and fresh basil leaves, and season with salt and pepper. Cook on a low heat for 10 minutes

While the sauce cooks, bring a pan of salted water to the boil and cook the penne pasta until al dente before draining

Melt the butter in a separate pan and add the drained pasta until coated well

Add the tomato sauce and cream to the pasta while stirring on a high heat

Add the vodka and toss again, before removing from the heat

Stir in half of the parmesan cheese until melted, and sprinkle the rest on top with torn fresh basil

Serve
