South East London-based Family business Nush (www.nushfoods.co.uk) produce the UK's first almond m*lk spreadable cheese (RRP £2.75 per 150g tub). The innovative start-up is currently launching their gut-friendly vegan cheese nationwide with Marks & Spencer, meeting the retailers burgeoning demand from mainstream shoppers for high quality dairy-free offerings.
The UK's first dairy-free cheese made from almond m*lk, Nush Spreadable Cheese is available in two flavours, Natural and Chive. They will be joining their range of fruity flavoured almond yogs, which are also available in Marks & Spencer stores in Strawberry, Raspberry and Blueberry varieties.
Each tub is all-natural, packed with whole ingredients and is protein-rich, containing 60 almonds; the tubs are also free from gluten, soya, preservatives and additives. Produced using artisan methods in Nush's South East London HQ, the cheese is made by blending the best quality European almonds with filtered water and is fortified with gut-friendly live, vegan probiotic cultures; left to mature overnight, it is then seasoned with a sprinkle of British sea salt.
Designed to have in the fridge as a culinary staple to be enjoyed throughout the week for a number of eating occasions, Nush Spreadable Cheese offers a direct replacement for dairy and can be used in a multitude of ways. Whether it's slathered on a jacket potato, spread on a bagel and topped with fresh fruit for breakfast, the basis of a nourishing packed lunch, added to a cheeseboard or picnic, spread on crackers – the options are endless! For the ultimate quick and nutritious canapé when entertaining, the cheese pairs perfectly with vegetable crudités and sits well in a tart, topped with fresh herbs.
For those who like to get creative in the kitchen, the delicate flavour profile and creamy texture makes it a versatile cooking ingredient. Nush Spreadable Cheese can be used to construct sweet and savoury dishes, including sauces, dips, pancakes, soups, cheesecakes and even cake frosting!
The dairy-free cheese spreads have launched the brand into the £3billion cheese category. Soft white cheese is the fourth most popular cheese on the market and is worth £236 million1 in sales alone and with Britons crying out for delicious dairy-free alternatives, Nush's latest wave of national stockists is well-timed.
Already praised by industry peers, Nush's Chive Spreadable Cheese has been awarded a Great Taste Awards star, with the adjudicators praising the brand for being, “Visually striking”, they go on to compliment Nush further, “the initial impression is that this is "real" cheese and not a dairy free emulation. It has an inviting cheesy aroma with a delightful fresh creamy taste with the chives coming through. One of the judges said this was the best non-dairy cheese they had tasted.”
Bethany Eaton, Co-Founder of Nush, says: “We are delighted to be listed in over 200 Marks & Spencer stores nationwide with our range of dairy-free cheese spreads, reaching the growing market of people across the UK who are wanting a healthy alternative to dairy cheese.
We feel honoured to have both our cheeses and yogs sit on Marks & Spencer's shelves; particularly as they are slowly expanding their range of high-end branded products and only listed branded grocery products in 2009 after 125 years of retailing own label products solely. This reflects M&S's desire to offer more variety, especially in the free-from category,”
Nush is a category innovator and so we are really proud to be the UK's only live vegan almond m*lk cheese. There is growing demand for dairy-free cheese and, through our range, British consumers can enjoy a delicious vegan offering that contains 30% pure almonds. It is ideal for a multitude of culinary occasions, whether filling sandwiches or cooking up new recipes – we even tested out our recipes on our children – who are always the best critics.”
Nush handpick every supplier and only work with people that hold the same beliefs as them as a brand. Nush also source all of their almonds from Europe, as European almonds are kinder to the environment, requiring very little water to grow, unlike the Californian variety that require up to five litres to just one almond! Nush also use recycled plastic for all of their pots, use card wrap instead of plastic and all pots are fully recyclable.
The Nush Spreadable Cheese range is available now from Whole Foods Market, Planet Organic, Ocado and Marks & Spencer stores nationwide.

The Nush Story
Nush was born out of a desire to do dairy-free differently; to produce a range of ethical, dairy-free products and destroy the myth that dairy-free has to be bland and boring!
Founded by ex-police officers Bethany and Paul Eaton after spotting a gap in the market for a yoghurt alternative that was as light, as creamy and as tangy as their diary counterparts. With only soya-based alternatives being available, Bethany and Paul began their quest for the perfect dairy-free yoghurt. They began playing around with almond m*lk in their kitchen at home, trialling and testing every recipe, with the help of their two children Megan and James, until they found they created the perfect almond m*lk yog that would win the hearts and taste buds of the UK!
Every pot of Nush is made to this original recipe in their own UK-based artisan factory. Nush make their own almond m*lk so they can control how much almond the m*lk contains. Unlike shop-bought almond m*lk that can contain as little as 1% almond, plus many unfavourable fillers, Nush's m*lk contains a very high percentage of almonds, and truly lives up to its name.
November 2016 saw Nush launch the UK's first and only almond m*lk yoghurt; March 2017 was the advent of a new sister yog to accompany almond yog, making Nush the UK and Europe's first producer of Cashew yogs; Nush added lunchbox friendly, Yog Tubes in April 2018 and July '18 was the beginning of their indispensible Spreadable Cheeses; with a brand-new look unveiled in June '19 and a plethora of new national stockists announced in 2020, it's high time Britain looked to almonds for their creamy cheese and yog cravings!
