South Devon based Sharpham Wine is celebrating after its Sparkling Pink 2016 wine was voted the best UK Traditional Method Sparkling Wine at the prestigious international competition Bollicini del Mondo held in Verona, Italy last month.
Head winemaker Duncan Schwab commented: “Our Sparkling Pink is made entirely from Pinot Noir grapes picked at our sister vineyard at Sandridge Barton on the left bank of the River Dart. We're delighted to have achieved this recognition for our wine, we knew it was a cracker and this has confirmed our thoughts. We're excited about the continued development of high-quality wines from the Dart Valley.”
The award-winning Sharpham Sparkling Pink is 100% Pinot Noir; crisp and delicate with aromas of fresh strawberry, tart raspberry and some floral notes. The palate is vibrant and fruity showing great balance and complexity (RRP £27 per bottle, available from www.sharpham.com).
One of the inaugural Devon wineries, Sharpham Wine has built an impressive reputation both nationally and increasingly internationally. This ever-evolving company is a hive of activity throughout the year, looking forward to a busy and vibrant summer ahead; welcoming guests for tours of the Sharpham Estate and to taste the unique wine and cheese offering at their shop. In addition, the popular Cellar Door Café reopens on 27thMarch for the season.
Organised by Italy's wine magazine Euposia, the Bollicini del Mondo competition attracts sparkling wines from around the world. The wines are blind tasted by a panel of judges including winemakers.
