Thousands of restaurant, pub and bar operators will be heading to Casual Dining at ExCeL London this month (25-26 March) for their annual tasting extravaganza. This year there will be even more to see, sample and demo – with many exhibitors exclusively launching new products that will be shaping casual dining menus in the months and year to come.
For 2020, there are over 200 exhibitors – around 70% are showcasing food and drink, while the rest will be presenting everything from the latest must-have equipment, kitchen kit, and tableware, to payment solutions, catering tech, and business services. Here's a preview of some of the new innovations they'll be bringing with them to the show.
Eurilait is debuting its new Alfresco Halloumi Fries. They come with a harissa spice sachet to add to the pre-cut batons of halloumi and a garlic mayo accompaniment to serve alongside the fries. Also new: Halloumi Crumb, which can be used as an alternative to minced meat, or, alternatively, it can be fried to add a salty crunch to top salads or pasta dishes (stand F76).
AAK Foodservice is launching Whirl Whipping cream Alternative. Registered with the Vegan Society, it can be stored ambient or chilled with an open shelf life of two weeks. It is can be used hot, cold or frozen to create vegan dishes and beverages (stand D45).
FrieslandCampina is launching Yazoo No Added Sugar Strawberry Flavoured Milk, with the category's first bendable paper straw. Each 200ml serving is under 100 calories and is approved as a sugar swap by Change4life (stand H35).
GCL Food Ingredients is introducing Prawn and Lemon Grass Dumplings – a new Italian/Asian mash up that provides consumers with an innovative pasta alternative (stand D61).
Canopies UK is displaying the latest edition to the Cantabria range of retractable roofs (for al-fresco dining 365 days a year). The new 'Skyroof' is an architecturally designed louvred system that can rotate and retract at the touch of a button to reveal the 'sky' where moments earlier there was a 'roof' (stand F60).
Vegetarian Butcher is launching a new range of 'meat successors' – vegan and vegetarian products designed for flexitarians. Products include NoChicken Chunks; NoBeef Burgers and NoHotdogs, which replicate the taste and texture of real meat; as well as NoChicken Teriyaki, NoChicken Shawarma and NoChicken Gyros (stand G55).
Karimix UK's new Korean Bulgogi Sauce is slightly salty, mildly sweet with a nutty hint. It can be used for dipping or grilling, as a stir fry/marinade, or a glaze just before serving (stand H37).
LoveSeitan's vegan pepperoni, supplied frozen or chilled in sausage or sliced format, has the characteristically sweet-smoky flavour of its meaty counterpart. It's made from seitan – protein-rich, low fat and 100% plant-based, and flavoured with chilli, smoked paprika, garlic and onion (stand A43).
Vita Mojo OS is launching its Order and Pay at Table system for restaurants, which means there is no longer a need for transactional behaviours of taking orders and payment. A customer can either use QR or NFC on tables to order, with staff interaction only to enhance their experience. Also new: Your Personalised Tasting Menu, which uses revolutionary AI to shape menu choices (stand G85).
Gelarto by Menodociotto's new plant based, vegan friendly, gelato range is made with 'rice milk', which does not have a strong flavour profile, and is available in 5litre flavours: Vanilla, Chocolate, Hazelnut, Salted Caramel, Coconut and Cookies & Cream (stand A65).
Unilever Food Solutions launched a 2.62 litre bucket of Hellman's Vegan Mayo last year and has now expanded the formats available to include a squeezy 430ml bottle. Made with rapeseed oil, it contains no eggs, no cholesterol and no genetically engineered ingredients (stand F55).
Sea Arch Drinks' new Sea & T is a ready to drink, non-alcoholic spirit with tonic. Completely free from (no alcohol, sugar, preservatives, allergens or sweeteners), it's made with natural ingredients and botanicals including Juniper, Sea Kelp, Samphire, and Blood Orange (stand AS10).
Trangs Group is launching hand-crafted battered vegan fish fillet, made from combining fresh jackfruit, banana blossom, oyster mushroom and nori coated in a crispy batter. The product is produced in a BRC certified factory and available for the retail and foodservice market (stand H51).
The Meatless Farm Co has created a sausage patty for an English breakfast muffin. Made from a combination of plant-based ingredients, including pea protein and unique flavourings, they're high in protein, a source of fibre, wheat- and gluten-free, vegan friendly and made without soy (stand D21).
Elakkia's new crunchy, twisted, spiced snacks are brought to life with sweet yet cooling Coconut and fiery Tellicherry Pepper. The authentic Sri Lankan snack is vegan, made with healthier rapeseed oil and has no artificial colours or preservatives (stand A10).
GS Systems is launching Peazi – a new mobile order and pay solution for customers to order straight from their seats. There's no app to download, no sign-up process, no email address to submit, no Wi-Fi to connect to, no queues to stand in. Customers browse the menu and tailor their choices, then Scan, Order and Pay with ApplePay or GooglePay (stand A37).
Billington Foodservice is launching its new Breathe Easy Brownie – a triple chocolate CBD Infused treat that may help to calm nerves and reduce anxiety (stand A71).
Destiny Foods has created a mixed box of 40 pastries to pair with a glass of fizz or a pot of tea. The range includes Lemon & Gin tarts, Tequila & lime cakes, Raspberry & Prosecco cheesecakes and Irish Stout Tortes. The 'Evening' Tea Time Box is first to market (stand F70).
Wild Beer Co is adding Kalamansification – a tropical sour beer made using Hibiscus and Kalamansi, to its diverse canned range of beers. Also launching: a new range of canned non-alcoholic fermented sodas, with flavours such as raspberry and blackberry (stand TH6).
Celtic Marches is launching its Great Taste and BBI award-winning low alcohol cider, Holly GoLightly 0.5%, in 250ml slimline cans (stand TH2).
Moving Mountains Food will debut its new Sausage Burger. A plant-based product that emulates pork, with an identical texture and taste (stand F45).
Kepak Foodservice's new 'Burgers with a Blend' – the Beefroot Burger and Moo-shroom Burger. The Beefroot Burger is made with 70% grass-fed Irish beef, 15% beetroot and 15% quinoa. The Moo-shroom Burger is made with 70% grass-fed Irish beef and 30% chestnut mushrooms (stand F61).
Tails Cocktails is launching a new Garden Cocktail. Light and refreshing, it balances the floral notes of Elderflower with the sharp hint of bitterness of a Gin and slight notes of cucumber and basil. Best served on ice and topped with soda water (stand F71).
Cadbury is launching the Cadbury Hot Chocolate 'Make it yours' Inclusions range, including Cadbury Flake and Oreo. Also showcasing: Oreo Crumb, made for foodservice (stand F31).
Tevalis is promoting its digital eMenu – TevMenu, which transforms traditional hard copy menus into an interactive, electronic ordering application. Seamlessly created and updated through the cloud based Centralised Management application, it is extremely quick and easy to manage (stand D31).
Notes Coffee Roasters is adding a new espresso to its 100% compostable and biodegradable Nespresso compatible coffee pods range, which already includes Ethiopian, Colombian and Decaf blends. The Espresso is a single origin micro lot from the mountain farms of Honduras, with caramel and chocolate notes (stand H31).
Meiko UK is launching a new sustainable range of food waste treatment solutions alongside the new entry-level UPster Series of glass, dish and pass-through dishwashers. Meiko's Green Solutions BioMaster takes all food waste including cooking oils, fats and even bones, creating a biomass for collection. Also showcasing: examples from Meiko's premium M-iClean series (stand C41).
The Sausage Man UK is introducing the Volkswagen Currywurst – a sausage being dubbed the most iconic in the world and, most recently, featured in Richard Hammond's new Discovery Channel show, Big (stand E70).
Arla Pro is launching its new non-melting cheese, designed to encourage more vegetarian options on the menu. Shaped in a log, with cutting guidelines on pack, it is easily sliced to instantly create patties for meat-free burgers and other hot dishes. When cooked it doesn't melt, split, shred or shrink, and holds it shape (stand E31).
Essential Cuisine is sampling its new 'Street Food Chef' seasonings, which take inspiration from global street-food trends. The new range includes Dark Mexican, Zesty Chermoula, South Indian, American BBQ, Spicy Persian and even a Peanut-Free Satay, which boasts a sweet and nutty flavour and slight ginger heat (stand D38).
Pip Organic has added Pip Organic Sparkling to its range. The new 250ml cans provide one of your five-a-day, with flavours including sparkling lemon (stand B40).
JJ Foodservice has launched a new range of eco-friendly hygiene products. The range includes eco- and vegan-friendly Washing Up Liquid, Multi-Action Cleaning Spray, All Purpose Cleaner and Compostable Food Waste Liners. Also showcasing: UK-made, Cyprus Style Cheese, available in ample supply and up to 62% cheaper than supermarket Halloumi (stand F41).
Toschi UK is presenting its recently launched 100% clean frappe mixes, including new Chocolate, Vanilla and Cookies and Cream. Italian Artisan Gelato, plus a myriad of syrups for coffees and cocktails, will also be on show (stand E40).
Wobotic is showcasing its recently launched centralised dishwashing service. Designed to integrate with kitchen operations to improve profitability and sustainability, this innovative outsourcing service provides restaurants with a simple and reliable alternative to inhouse dishwashing (stand C68).
Carlsberg UK recently launched Carlsberg Nordic Golden Brew. Living up to its name, its gold and crystal clear with real body, a fresh hoppy fragrance and just 0.5% alcohol (stand H21).
Punchy Drinks has launched two new flavours. The first features a refreshing mix of cucumber, yuzu and rosemary, which is available with or without gin. The new blood orange, bitters and cardamom soft drink also comes with whiskey. Both drinks come in 100% plastic free cans (stand B86).
Sea Products International's latest innovation – the Blazing Shrimp, features hand-prepared King Prawns enrobed in a light, hot and spicy, Southern fried style batter (A28).
Glebe Farm Foods' new PureOaty oat drink is made using only four natural ingredients: British gluten free oats, water, sunflower oil and salt. Created specifically for foodservice professionals, it stretches perfectly when steamed for textbook microfoam (stand B11).
EauVation is showcasing the stylish and neat fitting Table Top Acqua 20, which provides pure, safe, great tasting, chilled and sparkling drinking water instantly on demand (stand H45).
Ornua Ingredients Europe has launched Consistent Shred™, the latest addition to the Spinneyfields range. Available as a premium Soft Melt Mozzarella & Cheddar blend, this value-for-money pizza topper gives chefs a reliable and consistent melt, a creamy rich flavour and minimal waste (stand D70).
Lutosa's Dipster 'Skin On' French fries are an originally shaped side-dish that can also be used for dipping and scooping. They are made from carefully selected potatoes, with a high dry matter (stand B51).
Dalston's Soda is sampling its new alcohol-free Rhubarb G&T in 250ml cans. Real rhubarb juice provides a tart, fruity note to the blend of juniper, coriander and lemon balm botanicals, which is balanced with bitter quinine and plenty of fizz. The new range also helps raise awareness of mental health in the hospitality sector, with 1p from every can donated to Pilot Light (H40).
Belvoir Fruit Farms has introduced Belvoir's Sparkling Pink Lady Apple Juice, made from 100% juice. The juice is natural, with no added sugar and has notes of sweet apple and vanilla, delicate scents of rose and a citrus fruit tang (stand C40).
Brioche Pasquier UK has launched the new Petits Fours 'Elégance & Chocolat' collection. This lavish 48-piece assortment is free from preservatives and uses all-natural ingredients from the rich dark, milk and white chocolate to the fresh fruity bursts. The collection includes desserts such as Entremets, Tartelettes, Eclairs, and Fondants (stand F65).
Fayrefield Foods has launched a completely allergen free non-dairy cream. Ready to use in an aerosol can, it is free from dairy, lactose, soya, coconut, gluten, and cholesterol. The cream is also vegan, Halal and Kosher certified and is ideal for cakes, desserts, hot drinks, milkshakes and ice creams (stand B63).
Karma Drinks is showcasing its natural and sugar free Switchel range, which is made with British apple cider vinegar with added probiotics. Flavours include zesty and vibrant Peach & Passionfruit (stand C21).
Big Drop Brewing's 0.5% ABV Hazelnut Porter is now available in 330ml bottles and cans. The luxurious chocolate notes from the porter and the moreish hazelnut flavour combine to make this alcohol-free ale almost a chocolate bar in a glass (stand TH7).
S4 Labour has launched Shift Success, which enables managers to assign sections, job roles and specific tasks to employees in just a few clicks. The briefing conveys key information, such as specials, events, team incentives and sales targets. Team members access their allocation and briefing on the app, then at the end of shift they are asked for a review – so operators can track engagement, action issues and celebrate success (stand G81).
Yumpingo is demonstrating Yumpingo One – a Digital Check Presenter. Operators can engage guests and capture instant feedback using custom-designed, one-minute review tablets, delivered to the table with the check (stand B55).
Biff's Kitchen's Crispy Fried Jackfruit Wingz are made with lightly spiced young green jackfruit, coated with panko breadcrumbs and spiked with a sugarcane 'bone'. By using jackfruit, a naturally sustainable 'miracle crop', this meat alternative is soy and GMO free (stand K61).
Climpson & Sons recently launched its After Hours range, including espresso martini (ready to serve from the tap or shaken) and small-batch Midnight Oil coffee liqueur (stand B41).
Loughnanes of Galway's new VEEF range includes a plant-based 6oz beef burger and plant-based mince with a real beef taste and feel. Vegan and produced in small batches, they contain just 18g of protein per 100g. Also showcasing: new Vegan black pudding (stand G65).
Traiteur De Paris is showcasing a new tailor-made range of pre-cut desserts that are free from artificial colours, enhancers and preservatives. Products include: Fresh Sicilian Lemon Meringue, Light Gianduja Mousse, Crisp Red Berry Cheesecake, Zingy Mango & Coconut, Four Layered Cappuccino, Buttery Caramelised Apple Cake, as well as an all butter Lemon Madeleine (stand H20).
Nirvana Brewery is presenting the latest product in their fully <0.5% beer range, Bavarian Helles Lager. Also ready to sample at the show will be the full Nirvana range: Classic IPA, Dark & Rich Stout, Organic Pale Ale, Traditional Pale Ale and Twisted Buchabeer, a pale ale blended with kombucha (stand K21).
Mast-Jaegermeister UK has launched Jägermeister Cold Brew Coffee (ABV 33%), made with the classic Jägermeister recipe of 56 herbs and spices fused with cold-brewed Arabica coffee and a hint of cacao. It is best enjoyed as an ice cold shot, shaken and served at -18 degrees. It also works well in cocktails, including the popular Espresso Martini (stand B21).
Britvic is showcasing London Essence Fresh Serve, an innovative tonic fount featuring micro-dosing technology to create mixers, freshly infused with distilled botanicals at the point of dispense. Reducing packaging by 96%, it offers five different chilled tonics including elderflower, rhubarb, cucumber and grapefruit (stand H86).
Panasonic UK's commercial rice cookers are non-stick, easy to clean, suited to front or back of house, don't need extraction and are simple to use. Available in two sizes; 23 and 40 cups, the smaller one has an optional steamer basket (stand E41).
Fentimans is sampling its Light soft drink range, created by adopting the same botanical brewing process they've been using for over 100 years. Each drink contains less than 60 calories per bottle, whilst sugar has been reduced to 4.8g per 100ml without the use of artificial sweeteners (stand G61).
Araven S.L. is showcasing an innovative dispenser, designed specifically for effortless drizzling and pouring of oils, dressings, low density sauces or infusions (stand E36).
Craftis – Children's Activities Packs is showcasing its popular Bizzi children's activity boxes (in zoo, farm and sea designs), which are now available to purchase with an accompanying mini activity pack and small branded double-sided crayon (stand A61).
Binary Botanical has pioneered a new technique in brewing, as well as making it more sustainable. Hop leaves are usually thrown away at the end of harvest, but Good Living Brew use them in the brew – reducing the amount of bitterness traditionally associated with beer. This also brings an additional revenue source to local organic hop farmers (stand TH4).
Rubies in the Rubble's new plant-based chilli mayo is made with aquafaba as a substitute for eggs, so that vegans can enjoy it too. Aquafaba is the protein-rich water left over from cooking chickpeas, which would normally be thrown away, with added chilli and agave for a sweet kick (stand C11).
Lyre's Spirit Co has added 'Amaretti' to its comprehensive range of non-alcoholic spirits. Amaretti mimics Amaretto, with its bouquet of rich caramel with complex scents of vanilla, marzipan and maraschino accents. There are hints of tanginess and spice, and notes of nutty vanilla and a long almond finish (stand C38).
Peka Kroef is showcasing Peka sous-vide Roasting Potatoes, adding only rapeseed oil, salt and pepper. They boast an extended chilled life, rapid cook time, are labour saving, and the wastage reductions are significant (stand C31).
Small Beer Brew Co's new Session Ale (below 2.8% ABV) is brewed in a custom-built brewing kit using twice the amount of quality ingredients per percentage of alcohol brewed to create a low alcohol ale (stand TH3).
Pizza Equipment is showcasing the Neapolis by Moretti Forni. This new electric oven can reach a temperature of 510°C (with independent control of the ceiling and floor) and has been specifically conceived for baking Neapolitan pizza (stand G36).
Strawbar is distilled from tiny Greek strawberries to create a clear spirit in two strengths: Origin 40% and Platinum 45%. Best enjoyed in cocktails, or, for the real spirit connoisseur, on the rocks (stand A59).
