The Caxton Grill

Westminster's St Ermin's Hotel is stepping back in time with a 'Victorian London Menu' in the Caxton Grill... Inspired by St Ermin's intriguing history, head chef Alexander Boyd has created authentically Victorian dishes with a modern twist offering diners a unique opportunity to experience food and flavours of the past...

Starters include London particular soup, Mock turtle terrine or Eel pie & liquor, mains are Ox cheek braised in London ale, Battered cod with watercress mousse and chips or Bubble & squeak and desserts of Apple charlotte (named after Victoria's Grandmother) with brown bread ice cream, Cherries jubilee or Orange and rose trifle.

St Ermin's became a hotel in 1899 when mansion blocks were converted with the refurbishment being undertaken by famous Victorian theatre designer JP Briggs. Briggs created dramatic reception rooms with rich plasterwork including the Crystal Ballroom and Cloisters Suite.

Alex has used the abundance of organic herbs, vegetables, salad and fruit harvested from the hotel's rooftop kitchen garden to highlight provenance, seasonality and freshness, all equally important factors in Victorian cuisine. Boyd has also worked closely with local butchers to source the finest quality meat and ale from Fuller's, London's oldest, still operating, brewery in Chiswick to treat diners to a culinary history lesson…

3 courses priced at £45 or £65 if paired with selected Fuller's beers, available November 1st - 28th 2019.
