On Mondays and Tuesday evenings, Saffron Summer will also offer a similarly priced special 2-course meal, accompanied by rice or naan and a glass of wine, beer or soft drink.
“Being voted the number one Indian restaurant in the whole of Surrey on TripAdvisor (and number three for all cuisines) is a great achievement,” said owner Ralph Sousa, adding, “I opened Saffron Summer to introduce locals to the delights of authentic Indian food and demonstrate that there's more to the cuisine than just that in typical curry house – these new offers allow more people to try or haute Indian cuisine.”
Ralph Sousa and his executive chef and business partner, the classically trained Awanish Roy, who previously worked at the exclusive Cinnamon Club in Westminster, have designed menus to showcase the diverse range of foods from across the Indian sub-continent.
These include game dishes from places like Coorg in Karnataka, seafood specialities from the coastal belt of Goa, Kerala and Malwan, and more traditional Moghulai, Awadhi, Rajasthani and Punjabi dishes.
“I've merged the exquisite flavours of Asia with the timeless techniques of Indian cuisine to create a unique global contemporary style,” said Awanish Roy.
The a la carte menu features Wild Boar Vindaloo (using owner Ralph Sousa's mother-in-law's recipe).
Other popular dishes include a Guinea Fowl Banjara, a dish from the nomadic tribes of Ladakh –with peanut and dry mango marinade, filled with corn and mushroom, egg masala; and Curry Leaf Calamari, a Chinese fusion from Chinatown of Calcutta, to name but a few,
The short, seasonal menu also offers Indian street foods, Indian tapas for lunch and a special Sunday Indian roast lunch.
On Monday 24th October Saffron Summer will host fundraising dinner for National Curry Week (22nd – 28th October). Saffron Summer serve a special menu costing £25 a head, £5 of which will be donated to Curry For Change www.curryforchange.org.uk.
