'Inventive, clever and inspiring, Max McMurdo's upcycling ideas will make you think twice about ever throwing anything away' Julia Bradbury
Following the success of his first book Upcycling, Max McMurdo has turned his thoughts to the outdoors with this truly inspirational collection of inventive projects, each built from recycled materials and unwanted 'spare parts'.
In Upcycling Outdoors, Max explains the basics of good outdoor design and where to find interesting scrap items before delving into Planters & Containers, Outdoor Structures, Eating & Entertaining, Furniture, Lighting & Accessories. Whether you want to create a firepit from bicycle wheels, an outdoor plant display from a painted dressing table or fashion a potting shed from three vintage doors, Max provides invaluable know-how on the tools, techniques and materials required to take you on an outdoor creative journey.
Some of the projects involve only a few simple steps and can be completed within an hour, others require a weekend of outdoor activity. Above all, every one of the 20 projects are designed to get you upcycling and recycling as you create designs that bring hours of pleasure to your garden.
Max McMurdo officially started his career turning junk into treasure as a child crafting washing up liquid bottles into spaceships! After graduating from Bournemouth University with a 2:1 in Product Design and Visualisation in 2000, Max fulfilled his boyhood dream and became a car designer in Cologne, Germany.
After a couple of years Max decided that he really wanted to design, engineer and manufacture his own creations and felt inspired by beautiful items of waste so in 2002 he established his business reestore ltd with the aim to design and create a range of upcycled furniture and accessories from objects destined for landfill. Max was keen to show that eco-friendly products do not have to be made from mud and hemp, they can be contemporary, stylish and desirable.
Max is also a TV presenter and his next series which he co-presents with Julia Bradbury will be on ITV1 in Spring 2018 called '£10k Holiday Home'. Throughout the series Max will create his own transportable holiday home on a budget of £5k. He has also recently been seen on 'Find It Fix It Flog It' on Channel 4 and is one of the judges on the hugely successful 'Shed of the Year' also on Channel 4.
