A new gastronomic market called Mercat 1930 has opened on Palma's trendy Paseo Maritimo, just minutes away from the city's historic centre.
The market is the second gastro market to open in the Balearic capital in the last two years – joining the popular Mercado de San Juan which opened in 2015. Alongside the already well-established Santa Catalina market, the Mercado de l'Olivar and the local Pere Garau market, the opening of the Mercat 1930 further positions Palma as a leading 'foodie' city-break destination.
Located in a stunning historical building which used to house the popular Mediterraneo 1930 restaurant, the market features 13 food stalls selling dishes that blend local Mallorcan cuisine with the latest food trends from around the world. Visitors can choose from stalls selling paellas, grilled meats, sushi, seafood and vegetarian dishes, all made with locally-sourced ingredients.
Food-lovers can also enjoy the market's outdoor terrace which looks out towards Palma's bustling port, and enjoy a drink from one of three bars including a premium bar selling cocktails, a specialist beer bar featuring local craft beers such as 'Cervesa des Pla' and 'Boscana', and a bar specialising in Vermouth; which has seen a resurgence in the Balearic 'aperitivo' hour.
The new market will also have a pop-up bodega and a 'Zona Community Workshop' to host events such as cooking demonstrations, wine tastings and gastro workshops.
The market is open seven days a week, all-year round from 12:00 – 24:00.
