
Now and again a product arrives in our warehouse from Italy that gets everyone talking, and the gossip is currently all about Remeo. These out-of-this-world gelati and sorbets are made in Italy to traditional methods and with no additives or artificial ingredients: gelati and sorbetti as natural as you can get. They're even sold in plastic 'jars' which are 100% recyclable and offer more stylish packaging than the standard tub or carton. And, don't forget, a really luxurious ice cream or sorbet is great a Christmas, either as a palate cleanser or to dollop onto hot Christmas pudding or enjoy with fruit for a refreshing dessert - not to mention offering it as a bribe to the kids when have a bad case of cabin fever.
Sorbets
But it's the products that really impressed us. Only the best ingredients are sourced and used: the mango sorbet uses Alphonso mangoes from India, with just seven other ingredients to create a dairy-free treat. The Sicilian lemon sorbet is another refreshing experience: it uses juice from the finest Sicilian lemons and has an incredibly smooth texture. Serve it as a digestif or palate cleanser between courses - ideal at Christmastime when we're eating richer food than usual.
Gelati
A true Italian gelato is quite different from ice cream – less rich and creamy, they're made with more milk, little cream and no eggs to give a lighter, cleaner flavour. Remeo has a great range of flavours: Pistachio uses the highest grade of emerald-green Sicilian Pistachios to create an intense, natural flavour, full of fragrance, awarded 2 Golden Stars for the Superior Taste Award from the International Taste & Quality Institute
Another Remeo flavour, Stracciatella, was originally created in Bergamo (North of Italy) in 1962 and became an iconic Italian Gelato flavour. A world apart from the American "chocolate chip ice cream", this No.6 Stracciatella Gelato is made with Fiordilatte ("fior" = flower; "latte" = milk) and a drizzle of melted dark chocolate shavings. Remeo is the ancient Latin for"I return", taking you on a journey with our Italian Mastri Gelatieri to the origins of authentic Italian Gelato. Entirely crafted in Italy, Remeo captures the essence of la dolce vita.
Remeo dark chocolate (72%) has a truly intense and rich flavour, made from Ecuadorean chocolate – again, this gelato has won 3 Golden Stars for the Superior Taste Award from the International Taste & Quality Institute.
Vanilla ice cream or gelato can seem a bit, well, dull, but this Madagascan Vanilla Gelato is a revelation. Made from the finest, whole vanilla pods from the Bourbon area of Madagascar, incorporated with high-quality fresh milk and a dash of fresh cream to provide an intense and creamy flavour.
Echoing the Italian love of good coffee, Caffe' Espresso Gelato is made using 26% of liquid Italian Espresso coffee, fresh high-quality milk and a hint of fresh cream. Its full body and lasting taste is balanced with a smooth and creamy texture, filling your home with a true taste of Italian Espresso.
