Foodism, London's largest food and drink magazine, is celebrating the top 100 food and drink businesses across the capital doing their bit to make world more sustainable.
The Foodism 100, supported by Southern Comfort, is an initiative that recognises and champions venues in London which are creating positive changes within the food and drinks industry. The awards will acknowledge businesses which employ sustainable, ethical and social initiatives from sourcing, staffing, fighting waste, seasonality, social enterprising, charitable work and more.
Foodism editor Jon Hawkins says: “These awards are about formally acknowledging everyone in the industry doing their bit to effect positive change – from the bars and cafés with sustainable initiatives to the the social enterprises giving people a much-needed second chance, to the street-food traders changing the way fast food impacts the environment.”
“We're incredibly passionate about sustainability and in every issue since our first – three years ago – we've been using our magazine as a platform to highlight to our readers that eating and drinking sustainably and ethically isn't just good for the planet, it results in better food and drink and a more exciting network of venues, businesses and producers.”
Square Up Media's CEO, Tim Slee: “Every year we have a sustainability special – an entire issue dedicated to telling the stories of people doing great things in sustainable food and social enterprise in London and beyond and these awards are the next step in our mission to help inspire our readers, and the food and drink industry, to make the world more a more sustainable place.”
The awards are split across ten categories including best casual restaurant, best fine-dining restaurant, best bar, best pub, best cafe, best pop-up or residency, best street food trader, best food market, best social enterprise and Positive Change Hero. Nominations are now open at www.foodism.co.uk/foodism100 and close on 10 November.
The chosen 100 venues, made up of a shortlist of ten in each of the ten categories, will be published in November on Foodism's website. The ten category winners will be announced at an awards ceremony hosted at Borough Market on the 25 January and in a dedicated Foodism issue that month featuring long-read profiles of each of the winners.
