Change Coffee

Australian coffee lovers have the chance to help change the world on Change Coffee Day:  Friday 2 December.

On the day, coffee drinkers are invited to donate the price of a cup of coffee or simply their spare change at participating cafés when ordering their coffee. This spare change funds programs for vulnerable and AIDS affected children in sub-Saharan Africa.

What a $3.50 donation (the price of a cup of coffee!) can achieve:

  • 1 person donating $3.50 will feed 15 children for a day
  • 25 people donating $3.50 will feed 1 child for a whole year

“By donating spare change at cafe collection points, coffee lovers can enjoy their coffee even more on Friday 2 December knowing they have literally changed the life of a child,” said Robyn Borruso, founder of Change Coffee.

In 2015 Change Coffee Day raised over $8500. This year, over 200 cafés from Australia, New Zealand, USA, Philippines, France, Spain, and South Africa are supporting Change Coffee and it's hoped the amount raised will be a new fundraising record. All donations go to not-for-profit organisation Eniwe Children's Fund, which is on a mission to improve the lives of abandoned and underprivileged children in sub-Saharan Africa.

Since 2010 Eniwe Children's Fund has raised over $300,000 and this year 349 children have received nutritious food, formal education, and improved housing. With AIDS ravaging communities, older children are supported in running a household and caring for younger siblings.

Visiting an orphanage in 2010, Robyn was moved by the children and the challenges they faced. “Each child had a unique story of pain and loss, yet they approached life with such positivity and enthusiasm, despite some of their very basic needs not being met,” said Robyn. “I was humbled and inspired by the children's warmth and affection and decided I had to do something to improve their lives. The Eniwe team has seen exciting, tangible results in these impoverished communities, which has affirmed my belief in our ability to fundamentally change the lives of these kids.”
