The Gault&Millau 2017 Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra Restaurant Guide
In 2016, Gault&Millau Australia's team of qualified reviewers conducted over 1,080 restaurant reviews across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra. On Monday 7 November, Gault&Millau will publish their findings in its 2017 Guide, to be launched at an event dedicated to “Food, Glorious Food”.
More than 400 chefs, restaurateurs, and hospitality professionals from across Australia will attend the annual event at The Park Melbourne. Gault&Millau will also announce the winners of the Gault&Millau Awards, which celebrates its second year. Recognising leaders in their fields from the kitchen to front of house, the Awards cover eight categories:
2016 'Yellow Rose Award', the annual Publisher's choice
2016 Professional of the Year proudly sponsored by Electrolux Professional
2016 Sommelier of the Year proudly sponsored by Riedel
2016 Pastry Chef of the Year proudly sponsored by Apromo Trading
2016 New Restaurant of the Year proudly sponsored by Cacao Barry
2016 Potentialist of the Year proudly sponsored by American Express
2016 Chef of the Year proudly sponsored by PorkStar
2016 Restaurant of the Year proudly sponsored by Lavazza
As the guide has expanded to include Brisbane and Canberra this year, Gault&Millau will now award only one winner in each category from all four cities, making it an even greater honour than ever.
Chief Reviewer Mark Dorrell said, “In 2013, many people said there was no space in the market for another restaurant guide. Thanks to Gault&Millau's international benchmarking of restaurants, which is now conducted in 13 countries, and our fierce independence, we have earned great respect from chefs and restaurateurs. Our anonymous review process is the same across all Gault&Millau markets,” Dorrell said. “It enables chefs and restaurateurs to benchmark themselves against their domestic and international peers. The industry is excited that we are here to help and not to focus on negativities.”
Since entering Australia with its inaugural 2014 Sydney Restaurant Guide, Gault&Millau Australia has seen more than 120% growth in distribution. This year, they will launch their eBook version via its new website, set to be unveiled on 7 November (www.gaultmillau.com.au). Next year, Gault&Millau will launch its first national guide, including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart and Canberra.
The 2017 Guide will be available from Tuesday 8 November, and can be purchased online, from newsagencies, and at all good bookstores for $29.99.
