Imperial Beer Club

The first monthly subscription box dedicated to imperial strength beer, rated as the best tasting by beer aficionados across the world but unavailable on most high streets, starts shipping on 7 November.

Imperial Beer Club (http://imperialbeerclub.com) will deliver subscribers 10 different imperial strength beers every month, sourced directly from brewers and featuring higher alcohol beers with a big and bold taste.

The first box from Imperial Beer Club features 10 beers from adventurous small batch breweries, including Blacklight Banana (9.2%) which has flavours of banana and treacle; jet black Mexicake (11%) which is made with chilli; cherry sour Schwartzwalder Kirschtorte (7.2%) with tastes of forest fruits and dark chocolate, and Pompelmocello (6%) with a sharp tang of grapefruit.

What are imperial beers and why are they rated so highly? Imperial is the term used to describe a brewer's top of the range lines, typically with an alcohol content (ABV) from 6% upwards. In a poll of hundreds of thousands of beer lovers on the independent beer rating website RateBeer.com, beers with an ABV of 6% or higher account for 47 of the 50 most popular beers*.

Mark Fretwell, who left his auto trade job to launch Imperial Beer Club, says the service has a ready fan base. “There has been an explosive growth in craft beer over the past few years and people are increasingly looking for new, interesting and even eccentric flavours.

“Existing online subscription boxes focus on mid strength craft beers, yet beer lovers consistently rate imperial strength beers as their favourites.

“Even in London there are very few retailers with a selection of 10 imperial strength beers, let alone a different 10 every month.

“So Imperial Beer Club will work with the UK's best brewers to be the first club to deliver imperial beers straight to the door of our subscribers.”

A subscription to Imperial Beer Club costs £45 per month and includes a selection of 10 imperial-strength beers, 'Only for the Strong' tasting notes and delivery. There is a discount offer for the first 250 founder members that will see them save £60 per year for as long as they subscribe.
