Favourite foods taste even better when enjoyed in the fresh air and what better way to celebrate the arrival of summer than by putting on a tasty spread – either to enjoy with friends or just to treat yourself.
Of course, no one wants want to spend all day hidden away in the kitchen and thanks to Primula Cheese, you don't have to. This selection of quick but delicious snacks all feature the creamy cheesy taste of Primula, combined with a variety of fresh, tasty ingredients – the perfect accompaniment to a sunny summer's day.

Classy Salmon, Radish & Cheese Crackers
Grilled, seared, smoked or baked, salmon is a summer favourite, especially when teamed with its trusty taste companion – Primula Cheese.
This recipe is topped with finely sliced radish for simple seasonality.
Ingredients (Serves 6)
- 2 sea salt flat breads
- 150g tube of Primula Cheese with Prawn
- 60g smoked salmon
- 1 radish, finely sliced
- Parsley, finely chopped
- Dill leaves
- Cracked black pepper
- Lemon zest
Method
- Take the cracker, spread with Primula and place smoked salmon on top
- Make it extra special by sprinkling with a little radish, lemon zest, parsley and dill
- Finally, season with black pepper
Graze-on-the-go Peppers
Always find yourself running around after the grandkids, picking at their leftovers but never quite have the time for a sit down snack? These sweet saviours are ideal for grazing on-the-go - slice, squeeze, skedaddle.
Ingredients (makes 25)
- 12 Mini Sweet Peppers
- 150g of Primula Cheese, any flavour
- Chives – left whole
- Pitted olives, sliced into rings
- Pickled gherkins, sliced
Method
- Slice mini peppers in half vertically and remove the seeds
- Squeeze Primula cheese into the hollow
- Sprinkle with chives, olives or pickled gherkins
Primula 'shake things up' Shots
If you're avoiding starchy crackers (or wheat altogether!) alternate your cheese hit with sticks of peak-season fruit and veg.
Dunk away!
Ingredients (Serves 6)
- 150g tube of Primula Cheese – any flavour
- 1 carrot, 1 celery stick and ½ a cucumber all cut into fine strips
- Splash of milk
Method
- In a small mixing bowl loosen your favourite Primula cheese with a little milk to resemble the texture of a dip
- Pour into shot glasses, approximately a third full
- Place a few strips of each vegetable into the dip and serve
Homemade Salsa & Primula Pittas
Homemade tomato salsa with garden-ripe flavours paired with creamy Primula Cheese.
Perfect for quiet afternoons in the garden or alternatively keep the salsa chilled and snack until the sun goes down. Top with fresh basil, et voila!
Ingredients (Serves 6)
- 4 pittas (wholemeal for added nutrition)
- 150g tube of Primula Cheese – any flavour
- 3 tomatoes, finely chopped
- 1 yellow pepper, sliced and deseeded
- 3 spring onions, finely chopped
- A large handful of fresh basil leaves picked and finely chopped (with a few leaves kept whole for garnish)
- 2 tbsp white wine vinegar
Method
- Prepare pitta bread as per packet directions and cut each into three 'triangles'
- Combine the tomatoes, peppers, spring onions, basil and vinegar in a bowl to make a salsa
- Season to taste
- Spread a generous squeeze of Primula Cheese onto each piece of pitta
- Drain the salsa with a sieve and spoon on top
- Garnish with the whole basil leaves
Tomato “Pops”
If you're looking for fuss-free inspiration that looks amazing, these juice-filled flavour bursts are the perfect colour pop addition to any buffet
Ingredients:
- Cherry tomatoes
- Primula Light Cheese
- Chives - finely chopped
- Wooden Skewers (for decoration)
Method
- With a sharp knife cut a lid off the base of the tomatoes
- With a small sharp knife cut the core out of each tomato and scrape out the seeds.
- Drain upside down on kitchen paper.
- Fill the tomatoes with Primula Light Cheese straight from the tube.
- Insert a wooden skewer into the stalk end of the tomato.
- Sprinkle with chopped chives.
